Hasbro has a lot in store for their Marvel Universe 3 ¾” action figure line. Some of the most requested and obscure characters are going to be popping up in coming waves and 2 packs, 3 packs, Masterwork box sets, Giant battles assortments, and tons more! While tons of items were revealed during their Collector-Fan Event presentation, some of those sadly weren’t present on the showroom floor (we’re lookin’ at you, Thanos and Adam Warlock 2 Pack). Still, there were plenty of new figures, and we here at MTV Geek are bringing you our Top Ten list of the coolest soon-to-be-released Marvel Universe toys!
10. Dr. Doom
While Victor Von Doom has been previously released in the Secret Wars 2 packs, this version is painted in the darker and more detailed way that fans really want out of their evil dictators.
9. The Falcon
As a major player in Brubaker’s Captain America comic run, it’s high time Falcon gets his due with a new figure. He comes with Redwing, his companion/sidekick/pet, and it can perch on Falcon’s wrist thanks to a handy dandy c-clip.
8. Apocalypse
The would-be world-destroyer has been made for the first time in 3 ¾” scale. He is one of the previously released larger M.U. figures like Juggernaut, World War Hulk, & The Thing which as it turns out, are some of the best figures to be released so far!
7. Darkhawk
Darkhawk? Yes, Darkhawk. Getting his first figure in practically forever, Chistopher Powell’s crime fighting has finally paid off. While the recent War of Kings storyline helped bring Darkhawk back to the forefront, you still have to admit this is a cool character pick of a C-list hero.
6. Heroes for Hire
Luke Cage and Danny Rand currently fight alongside the New Avengers, but this 2 pack celebrates them in their heyday as the Heroes for Hire. Sweet Christmas! Just looking at Power Man’s tiara should make criminals think twice about trying to mess with this duo! They’ll suffer no fools… or jive talk.
5. Dr. Strange
Stephen Strange is no longer the protector of Earth’s mystic realm, but that doesn’t mean he’s a slouch. Recent issues of New Avengers has seen Dr. Strange battling evil forces shoulder-to-shoulder with Wolverine and the rest of the crew. This figure depicts Strange in his classic LSD-infused attire, and not the boring trenchcoat/suit ensemble he sports nowadays.
4. Scarlet Spider
What was old is new again, and as comic fan’s bile-filled hatred of the Clone Saga wanes, Hasbro is testing the waters with this figure of Ben Reilly as the Scarlet Spider. Once again, the odds of getting this figure would normally be almost nil, but Hasbro is really bringing a full range to this line.
3. X-23
Finally, right?! Since the Marvel Universe line’s launch, members of the new X-Force team have been trickling out. Wolverine and Warpath have both been released, while the X-Force version of Archangel is a Marvel Digital Exclusive (like Nick Fury). X-23 features an all new sculpt with the two claws on each of her hands extended and ready to eviscerate whoever needs eviscerated… or some such tough talk.
2. Original Avengers
The original lineup of the Avengers are celebrated in this 5 pack set. Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man & Wasp are all present and accounted for. Ant-Man even comes with a winged ant so he can keep up with the rest of the team, before repeatedly being kicked off thanks to his pension for spousal abuse and building robots that try and kill humanity instead of serving drinks.
1. The Sentinel
The Sentinel is 2011’s Masterworks figure. Like last year’s Galactus, the Sentinel is a giant monstrosity that towers above the other Marvel Universe figures. Clocking in at 16 inches, this mutant-hunting robot is packaged in a huge window-box with a Wolverine figure thrown in as well. Also as a nod to last year’s Masterwork figure, at this year’s SDCC there will be a variant Sentinel featuring a different paint scheme and a massive blister package!
Yep, it looks like Hasbro is giving Marvel Universe fans a lot to look forward to this coming year. The sculpting just keeps getting better, and the character selection certainly keeps things fresh. Keep it up Hasbro, and your other 3 ¾” lines better watch out as to who’s on top of the pecking order!
