The age of digital comics is surely upon us my fellow geeks. Apps like Comixology and Marvel’s own iOS app are changing the way we keep up with our favorite heroes and villains at a furious speed. While collectors will always want their paperback books, newcomers to the comic scene have never had an easier in. And now, Graphic.ly has landed on Google’s Android operating system bringing thousands of comic books straight to the palm of your hand.
The new app is essentially the same thing we can currently find on Apple’s iOS devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad the only major difference is the fact that we can now peek into the world of comics using whatever Android device we have laying around. Graphic.ly has also made it very clear they are the only digital distributor of Marvel titles on the Android platform. While Comixology will let you get in with Spider-man and the X-Men on Apple products, Graphic.ly is the place to go on Android hardware if you’re looking for some digital Marvel stories.
The app itself, just like most other digital comic readers, is free to download and users only have to pay for the books they are interested in. If you have downloaded/purchased books on other devices like your PC or an Apple device you will be able to sync up with your account and grab the books you’ve already bought. Another good feature is Graphic.ly View. Similar to Comixology‘s Guided View, the new app uses Graphic.ly’s own frame by frame (rather than page-by-page) comic cruiser to get you from the front to the back of those comics on a smaller screen.
Whether you’re a comic book geek from way back, just started reading comics or just want to give it try, you can head over to the Android Market right now and download the app. After you’ve spent a little time with it come back here, hit the comments and let us know what you think!
