Upcoming PC Power Play cover gets the scoop on the big change coming to Bioware's next title.
The big gaming news making the rounds this morning is that Bioware will be adding some form of multiplayer to next year's highly-anticipated Mass Effect 3. The info comes to us from a cover blurb of Australian publication PC Power Play, who released the cover and details of their October 19th issue which saw them visiting the Bioware offices up in Edmonton.
While there are no details yet on how multiplayer will be implemented in the game, it's certain to have some kind of story hooks for all players since, you know, that's kind of Bioware's thing. This December's Star Wars: The Old Republic will finally see the developer deploying their Mass Effect-style dialog system in an MMO context, and I have to assume that Bioware took some of the lessons learned in building that experience and shifted it back to ME3.
Mass Effect 2 was one of my favorite games of 2010 (that I still need to play through a second time completely) and that was in part because of the grimy, underworld tone set by the story. Even when it got big and alien invasion-y toward the end, there was still that element of "The Dirty Dozen in space" to it. Next year's sequel will see an alien invasion actively just wrecking Earth.
Mass Effect 3 will be hitting the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on March 6, 2012.
