Kermit: "We'd love to do TV Again."
Allow us to take a moment to gloat: we got to interview Kermit The Frog.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled semi-professionalism. The Muppets – the movie that’s brought everyone’s favorite fuzzy performers back to the big screen – is currently in theaters, and the leader of the pack, Kermit, is back on top where he belongs. We got a brief moment to chat with the busy amphibian about how to make show-business relationships work, what his take on American Idol is, and why we might see The Muppets back on the small screen sooner, rather than later:
MTV Geek: So after a good long while, The Muppets are back on top… What’s it feel like for you to have the gang back in the spotlight?
Kermit The Frog: It’s great! Of course, Miss Piggy never left the spotlight. She even took it home with her at night.
Kermit on Miss Piggy: "I do what she says, and nobody gets hurt."
Geek: What’s it like working for so long with the love of your life (Miss Piggy) and Best Friend (Fozzie Bear)? Any advice on how to make work relationships, well, work over the long term?
Kermit: Well, with Miss Piggy, we have a simple understanding: I do what she says and nobody gets hurt. As for Fozzie, it’s a lot more easy-going. We just get along with each other, we understand what the other one is feeling. And when I need to be cheered up, Fozzie is always there with a joke. (Of course, even when I don’t need to be cheered up, Fozzie is always there with a joke.) To me, the secret of making relationships last– at work or at home – is to keep talking with each other, keep sharing how you feel…and if you’re working with Miss Piggy, keep doing what she says.
Geek: Now that you guys have re-conquered movies, I was curious to see whether you think the Muppets could head back to TV any time soon…
Kermit: We’d love to do TV again. We’ve done a lot on the internet, including two Webby award-winning videos, Muppets’ “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Beaker’s “Ode To Joy” . But it would be fantastic to be back on television, which is where we got our start. I’ll let you know just as soon as I know.
Geek: On The Muppet Show, you – and the rest of the Muppets - famously parodied other TV shows. Since it’s been years, I was wondering what your takes on any current TV shows would be? Any ripe for parody? “Pig Shore” maybe, or “Ameripig Idol?” NOTE: All of my ideas involve pigs.
Kermit: All your ideas involve pigs? Well, you really should give Miss Piggy a call. She’s always looking for new writers. She doesn’t pay them, but she likes to have them around to yell at. Personally I’d love to do more TV show parodies, stuff like “Amphibian Idol” and “Extreme Makeover: Ham Edition”. It could happen.
Kermit: "There's a lot of Muppet stuff coming."
Geek: What’s next for you and The Muppets?
Kermit: We have a lot of projects in development. (That’s where Miss Piggy does expensive lunches the studio pays for them, and the rest of us hope she brings back leftovers.) There’s a lot of Muppet stuff coming, but I can’t say much more than that.
The Muppets is currently in theaters (and it’s awesome, so go see it right away).
