It’s no secret that Xbox 360 consoles just don't last. In fact, everyone I know that has one has either had to send it off to Microsoft for repair or is on their third or fourth purchase. So what are we to do with these broke ass gaming systems? Some like to sell them for parts on eBay, but Spencer Shepard of Blue World Aquariums had a better idea -- do a backward case mod and turn it into a salt-water home for aquatic life.
Okay, so the console may not have been Shepard’s to begin with, but don’t worry, he didn’t sacrifice any gaming machines for the build. A broken Xbox 360 was found in the local classified ads and Shepard got his project started by gutting the hunk of junk.
After the Xbox 360 was free of unnecessary components Shepard stuck a 6? x 8? x 2.5? fish tank in it and used the console’s original power cord to run wiring for the colorful LEDs. He was also able to use the Xbox’s clunky power box to hide the aquarium’s power supply and controller.
The inside of the tank was fitted with a piece of acrylic that Shepard was able to attach different types of corals to. After the undersea forest was complete it was time to add some salt-water sea life to the mix and Shepard chose fish, crabs, snails and shrimp to bring his one-of-a-kind aquarium to life.
