It can be a real hassle finding the perfect lamp for your new place, but i.materialise has dreamt up a new way to go about it that makes a lot of sense. They want customers to design the exact lamp they're looking for so all they have to do is load up a 3D printer and send the finished product to our doorstep.
To design your own lamp you will first need to head over to i.materialise and download the 3D printed table lamp kit. This kit will give you a design template featuring all the parts you will need to create a table lamp. Its compatible with 3D drawing software like Google SketchUp and Blender. All you have to do is click a drop-down and select the software you plan on using.
After you've put all the virtual pieces together and are happy with the result you'll upload the saved design to the i.materialise website. From there they will do a safety check, and if all looks well, print out your personal lamp.
It will probably cost around $300 to get the final product home, but the template download is free, there are plenty of examples to get inspiration from and there's even a design guide to help you figure things out before you spend any money.
