Star Trek and Doctor Who are two monoliths of the science fiction world that have made their way into comics, but they’re about to get one more similarity. The two universes are going to be combined by IDW in a Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover!
Called Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who Assimilation2, the new series will debut in May. According to an official press release, this comic will “feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.”
The series will span eight issues and it comes to us from the writing talents of Scott and David Tipton (Star Trek: Infestation) and Tony Lee (Doctor Who). J.K. Woodward of Fallen Angel takes care of the artwork, and there’s more than one possible cover available. There will be a special wraparound photo cover, and also a cover showing the Doctor on the U.S.S. Enterprise with art from Joe Corroney (Star Trek Ongoing).
“We are excited about this new adventure for the Doctor and the fact that he will be traveling with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his iconic crew,” said Soumya Sriraman, the executive vice president of Home Entertainment and Licensing, noting that Doctor Who’s most recent season had record ratings on BBC America. “This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand.”
