In a post entitled "Star Wars Is Dead," TMZ shows video of Lucas saying "never" to the question of further films in the series, as well as adding (with a subtle smirk) "I'm retired."
Lucas has made no bones about his disappointment with the way he's been treated by some Star Wars fans angry over topics ranging from the prequels to digital enhancements to the original films. And this is not the first time he has claimed to be retiring from the business; in January he told the New York Times: "I’m retiring. I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff."
In the same interview he also had this revealling comment:
"Why would I make any more,” Lucas says of the “Star Wars” movies, “when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”
Have the more militant fanboys and fangirls advertantly helped end the beloved movie franchise? And in their quest to retain the "purity" of their favorite movies, was it really worth it?
