This is MTV Geek's Battle Arena Otaku Fight! Fight! A tournament-style, knock-down, drag-out, free-for-all, battle royale featuring your favorite anime, manga and Japanese pop-culture characters! Each arena match-up will be posted and voted on by you, the MTV Geek reader, and each winner will advance closer and closer to becoming the supreme reigning champion of the Battle Arena Otaku! Who will take the top spot? Sailor Moon? Godzilla? Hello Kitty? There's only way to find out…FIGHT! FIGHT!
Why would we make two cute and cuddly characters like the beloved Ghibli creation Totoro and the cutesy little stuffed peas of the Mameshiba line of toys? It's "Battle Arena Otaku Fight," that's why! Between the two adorable creations, which will you choose? Which will stand, and which will fall? In one corner, sweet little legumes that come in their own charming bean bags or the rotund, grinning friend to children the world over? Two mascots enter, only one leaves!
In a somewhat less brutal pairing, we've got Rick Hunter representing the Macross saga while Clare, the young warrior out for revenge in the pages and onscreen in Claymore. It's always interesting to look at these pairings of characters new and old—it shows where the industry has been and to a certain extent, where it's going. Rick represents an age when a bunch of disparate shows could be redubbed and repackaged into one series for English-language consumption, while the other is part of the modern wave of targeted, shorter series that embrace their often mature ratings. Which one will you choose: the classic gateway series for anime fans the world over, the the new hotness and possibly a modern classic?
