This week sees the release of the highly anticipated Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover from IDW Comics… But that got us thinking: what other dream crossovers would we like to see? Particularly as there’s so many licensed properties in comics, and that’s the only place – not the movie theater, or on TV – where these types of crossovers can finally happen. Here’s our picks for ten comic book crossovers which would have our geek buzzers going for months:
10. G.I. Joe vs. Dungeons and Dragons
Crossovers like this don’t make sense on the surface, but heck, that’s what comics are for – making crazy ideas work. And sure there might be too many characters, but seeing the tech savvy Joes thrust into a fantasy world would be worth it!
9. Army of Darkness & The Guild
How great would it be to see The Knights of Good thrust into fighting undead beasties in the real world, instead of their video games? Zaboo ends up reading a version of the Necronomicon in the game, which ends up seeping into the real world, and the only one that can save them? Ashley J. Williams. It would be like Lawnmower Man, but not bad.
8. Galaxy Quest/Farscape
Watching the humorous, but occasionally heartfelt adventures of Galaxy Quest cross over with the often serious, but occasionally humorous crew of the Moya would make for a fun juxtaposition. Plus, they could have a lot of interesting conversations about what it’s like to be an underappreciated science fiction series with a small but devoted fanbase.
7. Buffy vs. True Blood
This is clearly a one page comic, right? I guess up until the two blonde superpowered ladies - Buffy and Sookie - start getting into it... But even then, Sookie is no good in a fight. Regardless: it would be satisfying to hear Buffy say a few choice words about being caught between a brunette vamp trying to walk the straight and narrow, and a roguish, probably bad for your blonde haired vamp.
6. CSI: Planet of the Apes
YEAAAAAAAAAAH wait what?
5. Supernatural/Angel & Faith
There’s no way this wouldn’t be your prototypical fight because of misunderstanding (the Winchesters think Angel is evil, try to kill him, figure out they’re both working the same case), then team up to take on a big bad comic crossover were made for. Have Yellow Eyes team up with Skip, or Crowley with the Senior Partners, and it’ll be a delight. Plus, there’s no way you could get through this series without Dean and Faith hooking up, while Angel and Sam stand huffing silently on the sidelines.
4. The Terminator Meets Adventure Time
In the grand tradition of “The Punisher Meets Archie,” this mash-up would pay huge dividends: both are obsessed with catchphrases; and just seeing the Pendleton Ward drawn T-1000 show someone a picture of Finn, asking, “Have you seen this boy?” Well, that’s comic book gold.
3. Godzilla vs. Transformers
There is literally nothing about watching giant monsters kick the crap out of giant robots that doesn’t sound cool... And if you don’t agree, you’re probably reading the wrong website.
2. Doctor Who/FRINGE
This would be worth it just to watch Walter Bishop freak out about the TARDIS. Plus, we think the constantly dying Peter Bishop, and the constantly dying Rory Pond would have a lot to talk about.
1. Star Trek vs. Star Wars
It will never, ever, ever happen anywhere else but in comics, so let’s make this happen, folks: a mega-series that determines, once and for all, whether the Millennium Falcon is faster than the Enterprise; whether a lightsaber or a phaser would win in a fight; and don’t tell us you don’t want to see a Borg-ed out Darth Vader. All we need to do is get Dark Horse and IDW to team up somehow. Hm, there's an idea for a crossover...
