Eduardo Khil, the man made famous for the viral video sensation, "Mr. Trololo" has died in St. Petersburg at the age of 77 following a stroke. Khil, a Russian entertainer, who's strangely awkward performance of a strangely awkward song called "I Am Glad Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home" hit Youtube in 2010 and immediately made the rounds, appreciated for its stiffness and surreal tone.
According to Boing Boing, the non-nonsensical "Yuh Yuh Yuh's" of "Returning Back Home" were used to please Soviet censors who were upset by the overly Western lyrics.
Khil was an accomplished performer, winning many awards over a long career, but it was Youtube that put him on the map in the 21st century.
In pure internet fashion, the Trololo video spawned a series a spoofs and parodies. Here are a few to check out in memory of Mr. Khil.
And my personal favorite:
Rest in Pease, Mr. Trololo.
