Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky is signed on to direct a big-screen 3D animated adventure featuring our favorite spinach addicted sailor, Popeye.
Tartakovsky will direct a script from David Ronn and Jay Scherick for Sony Pictures Animation who also brought us the nostalgia-laced hit The Smurfs.
Tartakovsky recently wrapped the animated horror comedy Hotel Transylvania about a monster-friendly resort that's operated by an Adam Sandler-voiced Dracula. According to Variety he is also attached to direct a feature version of Samurai Jack, which would be killer.
No word yet on a story or casting, but can we expect to see Robin Williams dust off the old corncob pipe to reprise his role as he did in the Robert Altman live-action flop?
Doubt it.
But one suggestion I have for Mr. Tartakovsky is to somehow work this lovely little number by Shelly Duvall's Olive Oyl into his flick. I love it.
