After the sneak screening of the new Marvel short Item 47 at San Diego Comic-Con, MTV News' Josh Wigler caught up with Marvel Co-President Louis D’Esposito to talk about all things Marvel "Phase 2." Though this was in advance of the big Hall H panel the next day, so he was mum on specific details, the MTV News team did find out the man's position
"It can always be an Iron Man, Thor, and Cap movie, it has to grow from there," said D'Esposito, also expressing interest in Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and more... Though he did say at least one thing that caused quite a bit of controversy: "He has a lot of the same characteristics of a Captain America: great character, good values. But it's a little more difficult, maybe, creating [a world like Wakanda]. It's always easier basing it here. For instance, 'Iron Man 3' is rooted right here in Los Angeles and New York. When you bring in other worlds, you're always faced with those difficulties."
The quote got picked up and thrown around quite a bit online, particularly as, well, Asgard is another world, right? And we saw that - and another planet - in Thor, as well as whatever was floating in space in Avengers. So is Wakanda really that big of a stretch? Watch the clip, listen to D'Esposito's statements, and decide for yourself:
