No matter what medium he's in, Blade just can't stop killing vampire. Take Ninja Scroll animation studio Madhouse's interpretation of the half vampire in Marvel Anime: Blade. In the 13 episode series, the Daywalker slices and dices his way through anything that looks even remotely like a vampire in his hunt for Deacon Frost, the enigmatic vampire who infected and turned Blade's mother while she was pregnant, ultimately creating the stylish vampire killer in the process.
The clip Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has passed along is from the special feature, "Blade the Vampire Slayer," which examines the fictional history of the character created by Marvv Wolfman and Gene Colan.
I'll have a review of the full disc next week, but broadly, the series seems to really capture the mythology behind Blade and his many interpretations across comics, film, and TV. Maybe it doesn't catch the hard swagger of Wesley Snipes' performance in the three New Line films (this Blade is a little soft, a lot less prone to have opinions about motherf****** ice skating uphill), but it's still a worthy take on the canon.
Marvel Anime: Blade will be available on July 31st alongside Marvel Anime: Wolverine from Sony Home Pictures Entertainment.
