Discovery Channel's Shark Week is a family affair for countless households around the world and really shows us how much we still have to learn about these incredible underwater killing machines. While jumping into a small cage in shark infested waters may not be at the top of everyone's wish list, I'm sure most folks wouldn't have a hard time making room for “drive a Volkswagen Beetle across the ocean floor.”

As you can see from the photo above Volkswagen teamed up with Discovery Channel to build this one-of-a-kind Volkswagen Beetle mobile shark cage, and it's awesome. Volkswagen engineers lent a hand in the vehicle's creation to make sure everything came out just right and marine biologist Luke Tipple, who also helped with the design, was lucky enough to be the driver.

The submersible is constructed of a tubular aluminum frame fitted with Volkswagen wheels and of course the iconic badge VW on the front. To move the vehicle and its pilot along the ocean floor two diving propellers were attached to the rear of the car and the craft was equipped with a built-in air system.

It's an impressive project to say the least and as someone who's grown up and lived most of their life on the water, I have to admit I'm pretty jealous of everyone who got to be a part of it.
