There’s a lot of great looking comics coming out this week, but the BEST looking comic is probably going to be IDW’s ROCKETEER: CARGO OF DOOM #1, from the Daredevil team of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee. We’re suckers for the retro-Rocketeer adventures from IDW anyway, but this stellar team working on a four issue mini is a combo we just can’t resist. IDW also has the bizarre and enjoyable MARS ATTACKS #3, and STAR TREK #12, which seems to have picked up a lot of steam once work began on the sequel movie.
Over at DC Comics/Vertigo, there’s SCALPED #60, bringing Jason Aaron’s landmark series to a close; BEFORE WATCHMEN: DR MANHATTAN #1, a mind-trip of a book by J. Michael Straczynski and Adam Hughes, taking on the most nudity prone member of the Watchmen; and FLASH #12, kicking up the reintroduction of The Rogues.
At Marvel, you’ve got the stealth hit DEADPOOL KILLS MARVEL UNIVERSE #4 wrapping up its deadly run; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #692 introing Spidey’s new sidekick; INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #523 kicking up the battle against Mandarin, as Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca finish up their seminal run.
Then there’s Dark Horse, which kicks off the most shirtless vampire ever into his own mini-series, with BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: SPIKE #1. If the idea of a vampire traveling around in a space-ship with some sentient bugs isn’t your idea of a good comic, well, I don’t know what to tell you. There’s also the great MIND MGMT #4 by Matt Kindt, a mind-f**k of a comic if we ever read one, and DARK HORSE PRESENTS #15, always a reliable anthology.
We’re also looking forward to INVINCIBLE #94 from Image Comics, leading up to the big #100; ADVENTURE TIME #7, continuing the ridiculous time travel storyline; and COURTNEY CRUMRIN #5, the best series featuring a pre-teen witch around.
And that’s it! We’ll see you next week for more comics.
