So do we call it MORE BEFORE WATCHMEN? We'll have to figure out something, because the Before Watchmen line of books from DC Comics is adding another title, as just announced by the Publisher at their FanExpo Canada panel. BEFORE WATCHMEN: MOLOCH is a two issue series, written by J. Michael Straczynski, with art by Eduardo Risso, and there's a couple of items of note about this:
- This is the third Before Watchmen series for Straczynski, after Nite Owl and Dr. Manhattan.
- It's the only Before Watchmen series to run two issues. The others all are running four or six issues, with the exception of the Curse of the Crimson Corsair back-up story that's been running through all the titles, and the final one-shot that will wrap everything up.
- It continues the trend of incredible artists with Risso. That's a little bit of editorializing for you, but its also fact. If you haven't seen his work on 100 Bullets or Spaceman, you're missing out.
Also perhaps interesting to note? This ISN'T written by Brian Azzarello, Risso's frequent collaborator, who is also writing two Before Watchmen series. Perhaps Azzarello is working on 'Before Watchmen: That Kid Sitting At The Newsstand' with Straczynski's collaborator on The Twelve, Chris Weston? We'll just have to wait and see!
Earlier this year, DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio dropped a major hint to us that this very project was in the works:
Oh, details on the book, you say? Okay, we don't know too much, other than it will focus on Moloch, the arch-enemy of (some of) The Watchmen heroes, particularly Comedian and Ozymandias, and will delve into his back-story. More, we cannot say, other than the below release dates:
BEFORE WATCHMEN: MOLOCH #1 will be on sale November 7th, with issue #2 following on December 26th.
