Benjamin Linus as The Joker? Count me in! TV Guide has revealed that Michael Emerson, currently starring in "Person Of Interest," has been tapped to provide the voice of the Clown Prince Of Crime in "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2." Emerson will be squaring off against Peter Weller's Batman in the animated movie, which is scheduled to hit DVD & On-Demand in early 2013.
Emerson commented on his villainous new role to TV Guide:
"He's one of those great villains that an actor like me likes to play because he has layers — he has a face for the world and a face for himself...He is, in a way, a villain who is a natural actor. All of that is that is delightful and confounding at the same time."
Thinking about it, Emerson's version of the Joker might be a fascinating departure from the Mark Hamill one we are so familiar with from "Batman: The Animated Series" and the video games...While Hamill's Joker was somewhat operatic in tone and over-the-top, Emerson might play more of a reserved -- though no less deadly -- character. The "still waters run deep" of "LOST's" Benjamin Linus might translate well to Batman's arch-enemy, creating an unsettling opponent who might strike at any moment.
