Yesterday, Apple sent out invites (seen above) for what could possibly be the unveiling of the long-rumored iPad mini. As always, the invite doesn't really give us any hint at what the event is for, but we do know all will be revealed next week.
The event will take place Tuesday, October 23rd at the California Theatre in San Jose beginning at 10a.m. While details are sparse, the date has been floating around the rumor mill for quite some time along with the possible reason for the occasion, a smaller version of Apple's iPad.
According to rumors that have been spreading like wildfire in recent months, many expect the new, smaller iPad will feature a 7” class screen and enter the market to compete with smaller tablets like the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, which have seen marginal success thanks to their $200 range price points. However, seeing Apple release smaller iPad anywhere close to the $200 mark is pretty unrealistic. After all, the new iPod Touch, which is essentially a small iPad at this point, already retails for $299. $400 compared to the current iPad's $500 minimum price doesn't seem as far-fetched.
What's most surprising about the invite (we've been expecting it for awhile) is the fact that it's so darn colorful, which could be hinting toward artistic features the iPad mini may introduce to combat the stylus wielding Samsung Galaxy Note. Of course, all of this information is purely speculative and we won't know anything for sure until the announcement is made.
Be sure to head back MTV Geek on October 23rd for all the details.
