Back in September, we brought you news that Leamington Spa-based theater company Whole Hog Theater Productions planned to mount a live-action/puppet stage play based on Studio Ghibli's "Princess Mononoke" in 2013. The sole production they had planned was immediately sold out after the announcement, and as a result, Whole Hog Theater wants to add more dates.
So the non-profit has taken to Kickstarter asking fans for support to put on more performances (at least, in the U.K).
According the the campaign page, "Every penny you donate goes towards prolonging the life of this production, creating more performance dates and all the physical and sizeable touring and production costs inherent within this." Personally, I think that's a noble enough objective--they just want to get the show out to as many audiences as possible. It would be nice if they articulated what the proposed touring schedule would look like and maybe provide a more thorough breakdown of how the funds will be allocated.
In the meantime, U.K. readers should check out the campaign and see if it's worth your support.
