While an official announcement should be due sometime in the coming weeks, according to the Studio Ghibli Facebook page, the studio's distributor, Toho has nabbed the domain names "Kaze Tachinu" (The Wind Rises) and "Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari" (Princess Kaguya Story), which line up with the plot details of their next two projects.
If true, "The Wind Rises" would be the name given to Hayao Miyazaki's telling of the invention of the Zero fighter, a plane instrumental in the Japanese military campaign during WWII in the late 1930s. It was his most recent color work and according to /Film, the master animator will be using talking pigs to tell the story, as he did with "Porco Rosso."
"Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari" sees the studio heading back into fantasy in an update on the Japanese folk tale "Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari." That story involves a young girl born on the moon who comes to Earth and is raised by humans. If it is straight up fantasy, it would be their first entry in that genre since 2006's adaptation of "Tales of Earthsea."
