Watch the horror short that scares Guillermo del Toro.
In Internet years, Andres Muschietti's short, "Mama" is fairly old, making its debut online here and there around 2008. Unfortunately, it was hard to find after its initial premiere, yanked from video sharing sites, presumably as the ink dried on a deal to bring "Mama" to the big screen as a feature film.
Now that the Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty," "Tree of Life") and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau ("Game of Thrones")-starring film is on the way in mid-January, producer Guillermo del Toro has decided to give the original short a boost with his thoughts on writer-director Muschietti's work here. His comments on "Mama" the short couldn't be any more true and this is one pitch-perfect, effective piece of horror. But will that translate into a full-length movie?
I guess we'll find out when "Mama" hits theaters on January 18th.
