Well, not necessarily that "Munsters" reboot - specifically NBC's failed "Mockingbird Lane" from Bryan Fuller and Brian Singer and starring Eddie Izzard, Jerry O'Connel and Portia de Rossi - but a "Munsters" reboot could still be in the cards for the peacocked network. At least according to NBC chief Bob Greenblatt at the recent TCA event. In an interview with Deadline, he said:
I won’t say we won’t do another version of The Munsters again.
It looked beautiful and original and creative, but it just all ultimately didn’t come together…, it just didn’t ultimately creatively all work.
We tried to make it an hour, which ultimately has more dramatic weight than a half-hour. It’s hard to calibrate how much weirdness vs. supernatural vs. family story. I just think we didn’t get the mix right.
So will we see NBC take another crack at a "Munsters" rekindling, this time one that skews closer to the original series' half-hour sitcom roots? Maybe. Never say never when it comes to rebooting beloved things. The suits love the beloved goods and there's nothing that will stop them from rebooting every dang thing that loving fans have ever loved. So be prepared to have this same conversation next year. Same time, same place, okay?
