In a chat with Crave Oneline, WWE president Michael Luisi said the wrestling organization's genre movie production wing WWE Films, in conjunction with Lionsgate, is planning to relaunch the "Leprechaun" franchise, anchored by WWE's resident lucky charm Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl. And, according to Luisi, the film will break free from both "Da Hood" and "Da Space", taking on the darker, more actually horrific tone of the Jennifer Aniston-starring original, saying:
The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.
Even though Hornswoggle is up for the lead, would the man who shaped the role, current "Idiot Abroad" Warwick Davis make an appearance? "Maybe a cameo," said Luisi.
I refuse to believe that whatever this new "Leprechaun" becomes, it won't be at least a little funny, I mean...he's a Leprechaun, right?
