The latest from "Grave of the Fireflies" director Isao Takahata won't be part of the planned summer double release from Studio Ghibli, according to constantly evolving reports online. Crunchyroll has been tracking reports that Takahata's feature based on Japanese folklore was being pushed back until fall.
While Miyazaki's feature, "Kaze Tachinu" (The Wind Rises) is reportedly on schedule, Takahata's "Kaguya-hime no Monogatari" (Princess Kaguya Story) is said to be on hold due to incomplete and unsatisfactory work on the film's storyboards. This, in spite of claims from the film's producer Toshio Suzuki back in 2010 that work on the storyboards was complete.
Here's an official statement from Toho (via SGCafe) backing up the news of the delay:
We received a report from Studio Ghibli that the storyboard has not been completed yet, though its progress was almost as same as ‘Kaze Tachinu’. After considering various situations, it’s been decided to postpone the release to this fall. We apologize to all of the fans who have been waiting for the release of the movie, and please wait and look for ‘Kaguya-hime no Monogatari’, which will be even more attractive when it’s released.
