This June, IDW adds the great EC Comics to its line of massive "Artist’s Editions" collections. Past editions include "Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer," "Walter Simonson's The Mighty Thor," "David Mazzucchelli's Daredevil Born Again," and others.
"The Best of EC Comics Artist's Edition, Volume One" will feature horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and pulp art from the likes of Al Williamson, Harvey Kurtzman, Bernie Krigstein, Johnny Craig, and others. It'll also feature a classic cover gallery, including this "Weird Science-Fantasy" #29 by Frank Frazetta seen here.
The monstrous book measures 15" x 22" and while printed in black-and-white, is scanned in color, so it'll appear closer to the original art. Each page features editor's notes, pencil lines, and corrections, to give a air of authenticity to each piece.
In the official press release, "Artist's Editions" editor Scott Dunbler spoke to the challenges of locating each of the pieces for the book:
Tracking down these treasures is a major undertaking since the stories are widely scattered among multiple collectors, but fortunately we have been able to unearth some of the truly best stories to come out of EC.
"The Best of EC Comics Artist's Edition, Volume One" will be in stores on June 9.
