Following news that President Obama and congress could not come to an agreement on a budget sequestration, the President told reporters that he could not make Republicans strike a deal if they are unwilling to do so. He said:
...the fact that they don’t take it means that I should somehow, you know, do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what’s right.
Yes, The President of the United States said "Jedi mind meld." And yes, he combined "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" references. And yes, the Internet responded.
Obama just said "Jedi mindmeld." What's next, Klingon lightsabers? #Shame #Impeach

Obama just confused Star Trek and Star Wars by saying Jedi Mind Meld. I think it's time to impeach.

In JJ Abrams world there is such a thing as a "Jedi Mind Meld."

#JediMindMeld? Come on, it’s #JediMindTRICK! #StarWars

Even DK Publishing seized the opportunity to market its "Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary". Now, that's America.

But here's the thing -- as fans of the expanded "Star Wars" universe can attest to -- there is a "Jedi meld" or "Force meld." According to Wookiepedia:
Force Meld, otherwise known as Jedi meld or Battle meld, was a technique where a number of Force users joined their minds together through the Force, drawing strength from each other. A refinement of battle meditation, it was known to the ancient Jedi, though dangerous. While battle meditation could influence both the Force-sensitives and the insensitives of both sides, Force Meld concentrates on coordinating and improving the Force-sensitives of the user's side.
So while not exactly a Jedi mind meld, it's close. Now I know the President straight up screwed up, he meant "Jedi mind trick" and jumbled it with "Vulcan mindmeld" but hey, wouldn't it be pretty dang cool if the guy actually knew about this piece of "Star Wars" trivia, and intentionally said "Jedi mind meld"? I sure do think so.
I mean, the White House did just tweet this:
We must bring balance to the Force. #Sequester #JediMindMeld twitter.com/whitehouse/sta…

BTW, the always reliably nutso Cap'n Crunch Twitter feed did this:
Let me call up my Orion cousin, maybe he can help with that #JediMindMeld. twitter.com/RealCapnCrunch…
— Cap'n Crunch (@RealCapnCrunch) March 1, 2013
So there's that.
