The 10-episode sci-fi series is being written by "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski for his production company JMS Studio with the Wachowskis set to direct multiple episodes of what Netflix describes as "a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted." Yeah, we don't know, either.
But it could figure into the directors' fascination with shared narratives a la "Cloud Atlas," or have play on themes of shared/transient consciousness (at this point, I'm just guessing wildly, but it's fun). The Wachowskis can come up with intricate, heady concepts (that are sometimes undone by an excess of explanation, see: the back two-thirds of the "Matrix" trilogy), but whatever they do, it's interesting to watch.
Netflix is continuing to expand its original ("House of Cards," "Hemlock Grove") and resurrected ("Arrested Development") programming with the addition of the Wachowski's series. For their part, following the less-than-enthusiastic response to "Cloud Atlas," the Wachowskis will begin filming "Jupiter Rising" with Channing Tatum in the lead this summer.
