...not of the high-rated series, naturally, but something bad is going to do down this season in Bon Temps.
With season five of "True Blood" mostly a wash, the showrunners appear to be picking up immediately after its conclusion with its most oddball threads: Killer Bill: the Blood God.
Jason's fraying mental state and kind of racist hallucinations, Sookie enlisting Pam to turn a head-shot Tara into a vampire, and the long, winding, dull story of the murderous ifrit are among some of the most dire elements of the fifth season of "True Blood." Attempting to go in every direction, it failed to find a single one that was compelling, even with the return of Russell Edgington and the introduction of Lilith, mother of the vampires influencing and affecting the minds of the vampire council (whose infighting got dull around the second week). See also: Bill's pre-Lilith blood addiction moral confusion, and the mystery of who killed Sookie's parents as threads that felt possibly better developed on the page but super thin in action (in fact, the latter storyline is just one more case of Sookie being made into an interesting mystery object instead of an interesting person).
So it's kind of refreshing that this trailer looks like off-the-wall bonkers, starting with Eric and Sookie having to escape vampire HQ and a presumably rampaging Super Bill, who exploded into a messy wad of goo in the season five finale as the finest PSA for not drinking ancient vials of blood that talk to you. Plus, Rutger Hauer ("Blade Runner," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") is joining the cast this season, so that has to count for something.
"True Blood" returns for its sixth season on June 16 at 9 PM on HBO.
