"The world's for the livin'. The R.I.P.D.'s gonna keep it that way."
Bridges and Reynolds play a mismatched pair of cops in the Rest In Peace Division, peacekeepers responsible for capturing stray souls that have made their way back into the living world. The film is based on Peter Lenkov's comic at Dark Horse with some alterations to the plot and characters (Eddie was good enough to detail some of those in his Splashpage post).
I'm just in awe of how Sonnenfeld-ian it is, from the cavernous R.I.P.D. headquarters to the rubbery, leaping CG monsters flinging the human characters around like rag dolls. Bridges seems to he having a fine old time here, resurrecting his Rooster Cogburn performance as Roy Pulsipher and Reynolds seems to be present as murdered cop turned R.I.P.D. recruit Nick Cruz Walker. Molly Parker, James Hong, Marissa Miller, and Kevin Bacon (obviously the villain somewhere in there) also star.
We spoke with writer/producer Peter Lenkov about the return of "R.I.P.D." to Dark Horse Comics and getting the film to the big screen (while I tried to convince him that "The Demolition Man" was his masterpiece). "R.I.P.D." will be in theaters on July 19.
