I've said it before and I'll say it again...Oh, Internet.
After winning the prestigious Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, Grumpy Cat (a.k.a. Tardar Sauce), the perpetually miserable (and admittedly adorable) cat is coming to a theater near you thanks to Todd Garner and Sean Robins, the talented folks behind the Adam Sandler classic "Jack And Jill" and some Kevin James thing where he falls down a lot.
Garner told Deadline,
This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy...You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.
Deadline is reporting that this is going to be "Garfield"-like family film, so we can assume that Tard is going to be creepily animated and miserably dead-eyed while encountering a host of things that make this Grumpy Cat even more grumpy!
As I previously said, I think Grumpy Cat is adorable as hell, and a very fun meme. I've posted her on this site many times. But a movie just might be pushing it a bit. But what do I know? That Twitter feed turned sitcom "S**t My Dad Says" ended up being a runaway smash for CBS, right?
Anyway, I hope Tig Notaro plays Tardar Sauce. She'd be good.
I look forward to when movies are just a bunch of still pictures of Nic Cage, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Patrick Stewart with quotes written in white impact font on them.
Did I already say that?
