Two words: "LASERBEAK, EJECT."
In the 1980s, there was no cooler "Transformers" toy than Soundwave, at least in this writer's opinion. I mean, he was an evil monotone Decepticon filled with evil tape-bots! And you could buy the tapes and hide them inside him! How could you possibly get cooler than that?
Simple: MASTERPIECE EDITION.
Hasbro's recently sent out some pics of the US version of the Masterpiece Soundwave figure -- and it is indeed a masterpiece. And much like when you were a kid, you'll have to save your allowance to afford it!
But Sweet Matrix, this thing might be WORTH IT.
Now, the Japanese Masterpiece Soundwave came with a couple of tape-friends, with additional tapes available separately. This one has ALL OF THEM, plus a Megatron gun and more!
Let's see 'em in and out of the package now!
Vast is the level of awesomeitude that this boasts! One thing I particularly love is that it even has little hydraulic-arms for his tape-cronies Rumble and Frenzy, as seen in the original "Transformers" cartoon:
Yeah, I've only been waiting JUST SHY OF THREE DAMN DECADES TO SEE THIS IN TOY FORM.
...I've wasted my life.
Now, we can't tell from these pics if Soundwave includes the clear plastic Energon cubes of the Japanese version, which also let you insert MULTIPLE tapes at the same time, so Soundwave could have all his runnin' crew handy for some Autobot throw-down.
But we CAN see that there is something this Soundwave can do that NONE of his previous toy versions could...
HE CAN EJECT HIS OWN TAPES.
Good lord, what an age it is we live in!
Our friends at Crowemag Toys in Raleigh, NC had one of these in loose recently, and we can tell you this is the Soundwave we've been waitin' for since we were kids. The articulation is there, the detail is there...the only thing not there right now is the cash, as Japanese imports are costing about $200, plus more for the extra tapes.
Retail price for this version has not yet been released, but it's likely to be less than the Japanese version...if you can find it. Start staking out Toys R Us NOW! Relax, it's mostly older people who hang out there these days and you'll only look somewhat creepy.
As excited for this figure as we are, if such a thing is possible? Let us know!
