It’s December, which means it’s a big week for Marvel Comics! Okay, that doesn’t follow, but the second statement is still true, and is led by AVENGERS #1. The highly anticipated title from Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena gives us our first new take on the main Marvel franchise in nearly a decade, and as you could imagine from Hickman, things get real weird, real fast. We've got until January 18th to officially say goodbye to FRINGE, but the cast and crew have already wrapped production. So this past Saturday, they all gathered in Vancouver, British Columbia - where the show is filmed - for a celebration of the 100th Episode... Which also doubles as the last episode of the show. Sob.

Courtesy of FOX, we've got two universes worth of pictures from the event which featured not only most of the regular cast, but also creator J.J. Abrams... And interestingly, Seth Gabel, who played Lincoln Lee the past few seasons, and has been noticeably absent in Season 5 since he got stuck on an alternate Earth. Does that mean that Earth-2 will return to help FRINGE division fight back against the evil Observers?

Well, dur.

Here's the pics, which sadly do not feature Lance Reddick, or, I guess, Kirk Acevedo. Or Mark Valley. Or that Hedgehog man. Anyway, here you go: Read More...

We've seen a teaser poster for 'Game of Thrones,' and gotten a teaser video, but tonight on HBO, we got the clearest look yet at the upcoming adventures of our favorite Westerosi. The video - a Production Featurette, with interviews, sneak peaks, and more - just premiered as part of the 'Boardwalk Empire' season finale, but you can check it out right here, right now: Read More...

Over the past couple of weeks, we couldn’t help but notice that the comic book industry has been rocked – TO ITS VERY CORE – by some of the most terrible controversies in its history. And those controversies, often started by one website or another, get a lot of traffic, and a lot of discussion. We here at MTV Geek want in on that action. So herewith, some ideas on what will be the next five big shake-ups in comic-dom, and let’s be honest, probably the biggest of all time:

Welcome to our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.

We’re still stuffed from Thanksgiving last week, but can always make room for new comics! I mean, we don’t eat them or anything, we just read them. We swear. Okay maybe once. But here’s a few comics we’re anxiously looking forward to consuming with our eyes, not our mouths:

The title we’re most excited for? Marvel Comics’ FF #1, by Matt Fraction, with art by the always stupendous Mike Allred. The book puts together an alternate version of the Fantastic Four, featuring Ant-Man, She-Hulk, super-haired Medusa, and a pop-star in a Thing suit called Ms. Thing. Is it fair to say this is the Marvel NOW! title we’re most jazzed for? Yes it is fair. It totally is.

ITEM! The Column Who Waited
Sorry, folks: it's been a month or so since your faithful Whovian fan did one of these, but that's only because he was getting used to working full time here at MTV Geek! That means in under a month, this should be "MTV Who" and all will be right with the world. Okay, on with the real news.

ITEM! Snowmen... ATTACK!
Christmas is coming quicker than you think, and with it the first looks at the upcoming Who Christmas special! That means there's a new trailer, featuring killer snowmen; and your first real look at Jenna-Louise Coleman as "new" Companion Clara Oswin. At least from the trailer, it looks like the Doctor may not find out she's also Oswald Oswin until it's far too late. Stay tuned... Read More...

This week, we’ve got less than the usual comics, as everyone makes room for Turkey… But that doesn’t mean we won’t see some big issues, particularly where Marvel is concerned. Kicking that off? AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698, which begins the “Dying Wish” storyline. We don’t know a lot, but we do know writer Dan Slott has been promising huge things for our neighborhood webslinger, and it all begins here. Then two issues later? ASM gets cancelled, and we freak out. So look forward to that! Read More...

"Betty has a lot of inner turmoil right now...her Hulk self is at odds with her humanity." – Jeff Parker

We decided to do a little "post-game" commentary with Jeff Parker on "Red She Hulk" #59, which hits stores today from Marvel Comics. Among other things, Parker helps us get into Betty/Red She-Hulk's head, and chats about breakout character Machine Man... Read More...

ITEM! Guess WHO'S Coming Back This X-Mas?
MTV UK has the scoop on a few returning characters, straight from the Doctor's mouth itself. Himself? Anyway, spoilers on, but our favorite xeno-sexuals Madame Vastra and Jenny are back to solve mysteries, along with new Companion Oswin Oswald... Somehow. Also in the report is the groundbreaking news that the Christmas episode will feature snow. Given that previous years have always had the weirdest snow imaginable (space ash, etc), we're not hopeful that this will be the wet fluffy kind. Unless it's liquified dogs. Gross.

You might know writer Andrew Kreisberg best as one of the creators of The CW's Arrow... But come February, he's going to be taking on another DC Comics' hero when he launches 'Justice League of America's Vibe.' Spinning out of the events of a series you can probably guess the name of, the Detroit based hero takes center stage in this solo ongoing, with art by superstar Pete Woods.

Like we did earlier today with Geoff Johns, Jeff Lemire, and Ann Nocenti, we've got some thoughts on his approach to the series from Kreisberg, as well as a look at the cover. Say, is that Vibe fighting Parademons, with Darkseid looming in the background? Interesting:

Earlier today, we told you all about DC Comics' big Justice League of America plans for February, and gave you exclusive insight from creators Geoff Johns and Jeff Lemire. Now it's time to turn the spotlight to writer Ann Nocenti's new, ongoing series, "Katana."

Spinning out of Justice League, and tying into DC's Birds of Prey as well, Katana focuses squarely on the DCU's most mysterious woman. And according to this essay from Nocenti, it won't all be Swords With Friends:

We already broke the news this morning that writer Jeff Lemire - best known for his supernatural and scifi work in books like 'Sweet Tooth' and 'Justice League Dark' - is taking it to the streets as the new writer of DC Comics' Green Arrow. His run isn't starting until February, to coincide with Oliver Queen's new status as a member of the Justice League of America; but we snagged you a first look at the art by Andrea Sorrentino, and an essay about Green Arrow from Lemire himself:

As we exclusively revealed earlier this morning, DC Comics' Justice League of America is launching in February in a big way. Not only will members of the team ranging from Katana, to Vibe, to Green Arrow be thrust into the spotlight; but "Justice League of America #1" will be getting 52 variant covers, one for each state plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.

What might be lost in the hubbub about the new titles and multiple covers, though, is the main book. We previously chatted with creators Geoff Johns and David Finch about it back at FanExpo Canada, and now, with the release on the horizon, we have Johns writing about just why the JLA is important... And why it shows that anyone can be A-List:

It’s a pretty light week for new comics, but that don’t mean there ain’t too many double negatives in this sentence. The big news is that Marvel NOW! kicks off in earnest with a duo of titles: DEADPOOL #1, and IRON MAN #1. Both are picking up after definitive runs in their previous volumes, and both take different tacts to differentiate themselves.
