I want to apologize in advance for beating up on NBC's Grimm a bit in the following review for being the straw that broke the camel's back with this kind of thing. "This kind of thing" being these legacy hero shows and movies which have cropped up in the years since Buffy went off the air without really figuring out what to do when a modern, everyman (or woman) character is thrust into extraordinary circumstances.

But let me back up lay out the premise for Grimm and try to work out how it really only offers what we've seen before, only more awkwardly by way of supernatural procedural.

Up to now, Falling Skies has had several intriguing episodes, a few decent episodes, and one or two outright bad ones. But this week's "Molon Labe" is the first genuinely thrilling episode of the alien invasion series. As the Second Mass attempts to keep hold of an invaluable prisoner of war, the invaders launch an all-out assault on their hospital stronghold.

A couple of surprising deaths and one insect invasion make this episode the best of the series so far.

The promise of a new show or movie with Chris Elliott top-lining it is usually a welcome (albeit rare) thing. The comedian, who’s made a career out of playing all manner of oddball characters with questionable sanity and very unique moral compasses could never be accused of giving anything less than 100% to the creeps, freaks, weirdoes, and perverts that have marked his career.

Add U.S. Marshal Chris Monsanto to that list, the cowboy hat and leather vest wearing hero of Adult Swim’s Eagleheart, whose second season premieres tonight. Thanks to a first season that hits the ground running, Monsanto joins that storied list of wonderful freak show characters Elliot has played up until now, with the benefit of a surreal and gory backdrop to add to the fun.
