Writer Dirk Manning describes he and Len O'Grady's ACT-I-VATE series, 'Farseeker' as a Bone-esque, all-ages fantasy story featuring an ensemble cast of diverse and exciting characters that is more than your typical sword-and-sandal tale.
It tells the story of a rollicking adventure set in a mystical world featuring eight quirky characters made up of humans and creatures alike. Among the group are Aed Farseeker our "defacto leader," a pair of zany, wise-cracking "Bug Brothers," a possible robot, a Dragoness and others.
Manning and O'Grady waste no time plunging the reader into 'Farseeker's' rich world, "We jump right into the action," Manning said, "the first page, you'll meet the eight characters, one panel each to give you some information on the characters, and then we go, by page four they're fighting a giant living mountain!"
One of the elements of 'Farseeker' that Manning is truly proud of is the fact that series is all-ages friendly, but he does not want potential readers to confuse that with "just for kids."

John Kerschbaum's Cartoon Boy is an absurdist slice of cartoon craziness. Shirking the standard, one-and-done formula of traditional comic strips, Kerschbaum's series is a continuing tale of a hapless, tie-wearing hero who stumbles through a number of silly adventures featuring mole-men, invisible grandmothers, "stalagfights" and much, much more zaniness. MTV Geek is featuring Kerschbaum's The All-New Cartoon Boy Adventure Hour over the course of five weeks. The first three parts are currently available and the next two will roll out over the next two weeks. You can read the first three parts below.
John Kerschbaum took some time to answer a few questions about his influences, his career, his involvement with the indie collection Act-i-Vate and his future plans.

An accidentally sexual innuendo-fied game of Cat's Cradle, the disembodied head of Inspector Casaba, a whole lotta holes and trouble with The Mole are just the beginning for John Kerschbaum's hero Cartoon Boy in the Act-i-vate series, The All-New Cartoon Boy Adventure Hour.
Kerschbaum's delightfully silly comic strips tell the often random and always absurd tale of Cartoon Boy, a goofy fellow who stumbles from adventure to adventure blissfully unaware of...well anything.
Be sure to check into Cartoon Boy's world every Thursday at Noon EST over the next five weeks. Read More...

Michel Fiffe's Act-I-Vate comic, Zegas tells the story of Boston and Emily Zegas, a brother and sister who are quite literally lost in a void-like world. Michel Fiffe's surreal and delicate art and humane dialogue creates a unique and breathtaking environment to tell a deceptively simple story of an optimistic young woman and her nihilistic but sensitive brother.
In Zegas, Boston and Emily, live in strange, seemingly post-apocalyptic, Road Warrior-like desert world that consists of Cronenberg-esque living wishing wells, threatening guards who appear from the ground and lonely bars where potential love blooms alongside the sad-sack regulars who drink away the apocalypse-blues. The humanity and sincerity pulses from every page in Zegas. Fiffe's world is fully realized though yet intentionally unrealized. It's a fragile environment and it's a world that is formed to support the plight, aimlessness, neuroses and uncertainty of the characters. Boston and Emily feel very real as they interact as brothers and sisters often do, with a hearty mix of animosity and admiration. Fiffe has created a real-fake reality and thanks to his ability to create real-real characters, the story pulls you in to a place that, if handled by a different artist could feel cold, and impenetrable.
MTV Geek will be featuring Zegas in its entirety beginning today, January 6th and will continue each Thursday at noon over the next three weeks. Read More...

"When I was growing up, in the 80's, everyone wanted to do their Cerebus and not many people pulled it off," Chew creator, John Layman said, referring to Dave Sim's exceptionally long-running, independent fantasy series about an ill-tempered aardvark. "This is the closest thing to my Cerebus, which is a finite series, that if I'm not known for anything else ever, that's fine."
Chew, which is illustrated by Rob Guillory, is set in a world where a bird flu outbreak has caused the government to outlaw chicken, resulting in the F.D.A. wielding a similar amount of power as our real-life, post-9/11 Department of Homeland Read More...

Things are...complicated for Crystal, the main character in Karl Altstaetter's Me2. The future series for MTV Comics tells the story of a girl with multiple, superpowered personalities, each with an agenda of its own. Crystal soon learns not only that the personalities exist, but that they can occasionally leave her body and head out on their own.
According to Altstaetter, when we spoke with him at the 2010 New York Comic Con, the multiple personalities are a metaphor for the identity issues that plague so many teenage girls. "Most of your life is about identity," he said. "Defining your identity through clothes you wear, the music you listen to, and in this case, each one of those identities that she's dealing with internally, manifests itself as a person, so I'm able to play out that drama in a very different way." "Green Hornet" buzz gripped Museum of the Moving Image yesterday as Mezco Toyz donated two action figure prototypes from the upcoming movie to their collection. MTV Geek was there as Mike Drake, Mezco's Director of Special Projects, donated prototypes depicting Green Hornet and Kato from the highly-anticipated film to Dr. Barbara Miller, the museum's Collection Curator.
We chatted with Drake and Miller about the donation, The Green Hornet, and the Museum's "Behind The Screen" collection.
MTV Geek: Tell me about how this donation came about.
Mike Drake: We first began donating to the Museum of the Moving Image around 5 years ago and we've been fans of the Museum of the Moving Image for many, many years. It's a wonderful museum and we love their behind-the-scenes displays, and we saw that though they were doing a lot of licensed toys based on movie properties, they didn't have any prototypes. So we thought: when we're done making a toy we just lock the prototypes in a vault and no one ever sees them. But if we gave them to the museum they'd be enjoyed by thousands of people -- well millions of people. So we contacted the museum and at first they didn't understand what we were talking about! [Laughs] But after trying for a while and going to visit with them, they realized what it was that we were offering them and they've been happily accepting it ever since. And what's interesting is that we're the only toy company that's agreed to provide them with the prototypes for the action figures. Read More...
