Kurtis J. Wiebe is one of the most prolific writers working under the Image Comics banner. He first sprang onto the scene with "Green Wake" (one of my favorite series of the past few years) and "The Intrepids" and followed those up with "Debris," "Grim Leaper" and "Peter Panzerfaust." At the recent C2E2 in Chicago, Wiebe showed off his latest (with Meg Dejmal and John “Roc” Upchurch), the fantasy/action/comedy series "Rat Queens." Think of "Rat Queens" as a smash-up of early, punky, profane Peter Jackson and later, epic, "LoTR" lord Peter Jackson.

bates motel lost beer 1

Along with Damon Lindelof (and J.J. Abrams in the beginning), Carlton Cuse helped shepherd "Lost" into television history by creating a rich, frustrating mythology loaded with juicy nuggets, red herrings, in-jokes, and subtle clues that viewers thought might unlock the ultimate secrets of that magical island and its lost inhabitants. As it turned out, none of it meant anything because FRIENDSHIP was all that mattered or whatever, but that's not the point.

The point is, Carlton Cuse has moved on from tropical settings and giant smoke monsters, to the Pacific Northwest and small, teenage, future (misunderstood) monsters with his new series "Bates Motel." Now, "Bates" has bupkis to do with "Lost" but it appears that didn't stop Cuse from layering in at least one little easter egg in the show to get Losties foaming at the mouth.
