The newest video game in the "America's Army" series, "Proving Grounds," is out now on Steam, for free. Project Manager Marsha Berry says the game is taking a "back-to-basics approach" this time around, focusing on team-based tactics.

The release comes just two weeks after the release of the eighth issue of the "America's Army" digital comic from IDW, which has been going since the release of "America's Army 3" back in 2009. When we play the "remember the 90's" game with comics, many of us comics fans from the period will look back on the flashier, embarrassing parts of the industry: the rise of characters with names like "Bloodwulf;" the Chromium era; Superman's mullet. What we forget sometimes is that brilliant comics like David Lapham's "Stray Bullets" or Mike Allred's "Madman" were doing big, exciting, and strange things with the format without the benefit of 47 variant covers.

Add to that list Sam Kieth's "The Maxx," which is getting the hardcover treatment, according to an SDCC 2013 announcement from publisher IDW.

Late Wednesday afternoon, it was officially announced that Universal Pictures had optioned IDW's highly-regarded Locke & Key comic for development as a major motion picture.

For those who may just be hearing of the series for the first time, Locke & Key is a property created by New York Times best-selling author Joe Hill and Eisner nominated artist Gabriel Rodriguez.  The comic follows siblings who move to their family's ancestral estate after their father's death, and there they discover magical keys that unlock long-buried secrets and give their users supernatural powers.  The collected editions have made multiple appearances on the New York Times bestseller lists, garnered several nominations (and one win) at the comic industries annual Eisner Awards, and won two British Fantasy Awards for Best Graphic Novel.
