If you can’t get enough of "True Blood" through the television series or the Sookie Stackhouse books, then have you been reading the comic book version? A few "True Blood" comic series, like "Tainted Blood," have already been released -- but another ongoing graphic series will be hitting bookstores in May.

The newest series from IDW, which will begin with an arc called "Where Were You?", promises to show readers how the characters in "True Blood" react to the “Great Revelation,” which is the day when the world learns that vampires do indeed exist. Ann Nocenti ("Green Arrow"), Michael McMillian ("True Blood: Tainted Love"), Michael Gaydos ("Alias") and Tim Bradstreet ("Vampire: The Masquerade") are all on board for this latest "True Blood" adventure. Star Trek and Doctor Who are two monoliths of the science fiction world that have made their way into comics, but they’re about to get one more similarity. The two universes are going to be combined by IDW in a Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover!

Called Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who Assimilation2, the new series will debut in May. According to an official press release, this comic will “feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.” Read More...

Today we’ve got three advance reviews of IDW titles for you - two G.I. Joe titles, and one Doctor Who. Geronimo, yo joe, and mild spoilers ho:

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #175 - Sure, half of the issue is taken up with some sort of thing going on with The Baroness, Destro, and Cobra Commander, but the real draw here? In all but name, you’ve got Ninjas vs. Terminators. And you can’t really get more awesome in comic books than that (okay, maybe if it was in medieval times).

But seriously, folks, what Lara Hama and the rest of the team do so successfully here is continue to do what they’ve done for decades: deliver classic G.I. Joe tales in as fun and simple a manner as possible. Here, you basically have one long fight scene with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes trying to elude a Terminator-lite robot. Does he have a weakness in the eye area? Will they be triumphant, but probably have to fight a hundred more robots next issue? Sure. And that’s what keeps us coming back. Read More...

Before we get into talking about IDW’s new Magic: The Gathering comic book, and its relative merit as a way of spending your hard earned money, I’m going to tell you about my experience with the franchise:

When Magic first launched, I was in the middle of an avid card collecting phase. I spent most of my money on Marvel Cards, and was looking for something new to pick up, since those only came out once a year or so. I was also, at the time, in the middle of a casual Dungeons and Dragons group, which met once every few weeks to play games and hang out. Point being: I was primed and ready for Magic when the game was first released. I grabbed as many cards as I could, forced my brother to play me constantly (he won, mostly to my annoyance), and still have a giant box somewhere packed with nearly a complete collection of original series cards. You've been creating new characters every time you play, so why not share a personal favorite? As part of the new Dungeons & Dragons: Forgotten Realms comic book series launching in April, IDW and Wizards of the Coast are teaming up to run a fan-created character contest. This partnership offers fans the chance to see an original creation brought to life in the hands of series writer Ed Greenwood, who will be part of the judging panel alongside representatives from both companies.

Taking a peek into the fine print, we see that potential entrants are specifically instructed not to create a a god, goddess, demigod, or an already-existing Forgotten Realms character. Adherence to this rule constitutes 50% of the potential points an entry can get, with the remaining share split between originality and creativity.

Ashley Wood is a one helluva creator and it definitely shows in the designs for his line of World War Robots from ThreeA Toys, based on the IDW comics! The figures produced through the company are more art than action figure, and manage to have a unique feel in an already crowded market. We've been wanting to snag a couple of these for a while, but held off knowing that once the addiction set in for these robotic war machines we'd stay broke from then on! Well, thanks to our local comic shop's distribution of Sideshow Collectibles merchandise, we finally gave into temptation. Today, we're gonna check out the Gerry 1G and Mod 7 1G Armstrongs from ThreeA's WWRP line!

Looking through our picks for the best comics of 2011, I've been trying to divine some kind of theme among the Geek staff's choices. Without really going out of our way to do so, the list of books we all gravitated towards ran the gamut from creator-owned to long-running franchises, from big, superhero fiction in revamped universes, to quietly personal dramas about relationships.

What I'm saying is, I guess: keep making things different, diverse, and strange in 2011 comic books, and we'll keep reading you.

IDW held a conference call with their Chief Creative Officer and Editor, Chris Ryall and IDW editor Bobby Curnow detailing their big 2012 crossover, Infestation 2, a follow-up to this year's Infestation (naturally). That event saw a zombie outbreak across time and space conveniently intersect with many of the publisher's major properties, including Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Dungeons and Dragons.
