According to Disney XD series creator Chris Prynoski, his futuristic car-crazy animated show had a long winding path to actually getting on the air. "It's actually an idea I've had for a long time—oh, for ten years—actually, the original network I sold it to was MTV, who ultimately passed on it." Motorcity takes place in future Detroit, which has been refashioned into the metropolis Detroit Deluxe by a sinister corporation headed by Abraham Kane (Mark Hamill). The gloss of this shiny new city is tarnished by the corporation's restrictions of all personal freedoms including personal transportation, leading a gang of teens calling themselves "Burners" to excavate, rebuild, and turbo-charge cars in the old Detroit underneath the new one.

While the home base may have passed on it, Eric Colman, who took the pitch while at another network, remembered Prynoski's pitch when the executive became the Senior Vice President of Original Animation for Disney, and urged Prynoski to bring his "future car show over to the mouse house. The latest in Shout! Factory's releases from Marvel's line of motion comics collects the Joss Whedon-penned X-Men's battle against the resurrected Hellfire Club.

This was the third arc from Whedon and artist John Cassady's run on the book and saw Cyclops and the gang betrayed by one of their own as well as the return of a pivotal character from Grant Morrison's tenure with the X-Men. The disc is part of the Marvel Knights Animation line, produced by Atomic Cartoons. Torn is the third release from Shout! Factory following Gifted in 2010 and Dangerous earlier this year.

Shout! Factory has set a suggested retail price of $14.97 for the 81 minute release of Astonishing X-Men: Torn (which covers six issues of the comic) and it will be released on DVD August 14th.

The score - the instrumental soundtrack - is a film or TV shows not-so-silent hero. When the good guys win, the bad guys attack, or two characters share a tender moment, a good soundtrack is always there to boost up and amplify the emotion in a scene. Double that for animation, where the score is usually omnipresent. So we were pretty excited to have the chance to sit down with three of the hardest working composers today: Kevin Manthei, composer for Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man; Joseph Trapanese, who's work you'll hear on the upcoming Tron: Uprising; and Jeremy Zuckerman, returning from Avatar: The Last Airbender to work on the currently running sequel, The Legend of Korra.
