In 20 years of bringing the animated adventures of Batman to the small screen,* one of the most remarkable feats Warner Brothers Animation has accomplished over the years is working classic Batman stories into a 22-minute episode of TV, leading all the way up to the September 25th release of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Pt. 1. From getting Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams' "Daughter of the Demon" and "The Demon Lives Again" "The Demon's Quest" on TV, giving us the epic showdown between Ra's Al Ghul and Batman in the desert, while "Joker's Millions" gave us the villain's rags to unearned riches to rags story from Detective Comics #180. Even Frank Miller, Lynn Varley, and Klaus Janson's own The Dark Knight Returns' epic fight between the Bat and the Mutants made its way into the "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode with Michael Ironside lending his rumbling voice to elderly Bruce Wayne. The version of Blade that makes his way into Marvel Anime: Blade is as distinctly unlike the version of the character you've probably conjured in your head based on the three New Line films. This isn't the cooler-than-cool professional badass that Wesley Snipes portrayed in the movies, nor is it the street-level monster hunter from the short-lived TV series. It's not even all that much aligned with the magic combatant and vampire slayer version that took hold around the time of Captain Britain and MI6.

No, Madhouse went another way, seemingly drawing inspiration from samurai films (as Blade '98 did), while also mining the far-flung elements of the character's fictional history (for instance, I'd forgotten that in the comics he was raised in a London brothel after his mother's death). So Madhouse gives us a Blade that walks and talks unlike any version we've seen before, but is still familiar.

And then he starts killing evil harpies and things go sideways (in a good way).

As with Marvel Anime X-Men and Iron Man, Blade is based--roughly, I'd imagine--on a story by Warren Ellis. It takes Blade to Japan and later on an extended tour of Southeast Asia to hunt down Deacon Frost, the vampire that fed on his mother and made the boy who would be Eric Brooks the half-vampire Blade. And that means using his trusty katana to slice through an endless army of vampire henchman who burst immediately into flames while picking up Frost's trail.

A Variety report over the weekend revealed that Warner Brothers was considering toning down the gun violence in the upcoming animated series Beware the Batman. Set to debut sometime in 2013, the Cartoon Network series is being produced by WB Animation executive VP Sam Register, who called for a review of the use of guns and weapons in the series in light of the The Dark Knight Rises shooting rampage in Aurora, CO. According to the Variety report, Register initiated these changes without any outside probing from Warner Brothers.

OK, here's the high-concept: a family struggles to keep their Titanic-themed casino afloat in Las Vegas. Sounding like "Bob's Burgers" with poker chips, this is the plot of "Lowe Rollers," an animated pilot from Ryan Reynolds and his DarkFire production company that has just received a script order from Fox.

This isn't Reynolds's first foray into animation; last year he sold a pilot to Fox for the series "And Then There Was Gordon," about an ordinary kid surrounded by prodigies. While that didn't get picked up for series, Reynolds may have a better chance here. Which begs the question: is the "Green Lantern" actor angling to be the next Seth McFarlane, becoming a mogul on Fox's Animation Domination lineup? Or will "Lowe Rollers" suffer a similar fate as the short lived (7 episodes) Jonah Hill series "Allen Gregory"?

And what about that "Deadpool" movie, Ryan?! Don't get too distracted!

No matter what medium he's in, Blade just can't stop killing vampire. Take Ninja Scroll animation studio Madhouse's interpretation of the half vampire in Marvel Anime: Blade. In the 13 episode series, the Daywalker slices and dices his way through anything that looks even remotely like a vampire in his hunt for Deacon Frost, the enigmatic vampire who infected and turned Blade's mother while she was pregnant, ultimately creating the stylish vampire killer in the process.

Right now, the only special feature detailed in the Shout! Hey, it's a step up from the previous DVD release which was barebones.

You may not have one hundred and four days of Summer vacation, but there's still at least a few weeks left to get all the Smores cooking and firefly catching you can in... Or at least, Smores cereal eating, and Firefly watching, if you're more like us. Doesn't mean you don't have options, though, and luckily, the creators of some of Disney's biggest animated series have a few suggestions.

In the above video, Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh ("Phineas and Ferb"), Alex Hirsch ("Gravity Falls"), Charlie Bean ("TRON: Uprising") and Noah Z. Jones ("Fish Hooks") talk about what really made their summers special... And in case you couldn't guess, how that ties in neatly with their shows on Disney Channel, or Disney XD. Read More...
