Original lead guitarist for Metallica, founder of Megadeth and heavy metal legend Dave Mustaine was recently ranked No.1 in “The Top 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists”. Now he's using his musical talents to teach thousands of fans how to play guitar through iPhoneiPad and iPod Touch.

A new app designed by Mustaine and the team behind Rock Prodigy will give fans a new way to experience and learn a slew of Megadeth songs on any guitar. Angry Birds has come to life as plush toys, board games, a recipe book and even sandals. Now, through a partnership between Rovio and Lappset Group the pissed-off avian egg-layers and their fat, sloppy, green rivals are going to be taking over schoolyards as playground equipment and ready-made “activity parks” as early as next year. I'll be honest, my inbox is constantly being bombarded by e-mails telling me about the newest iPhone cases around and, unless it flies or shoots fire out of the top, I'm usually not that interested. However, every once in awhile I find one that literally makes me jump up and down like a little school girl who just found out she's getting pony for her birthday. I'm a nerd, that's what I do when I like something.

This time it's new line of cases from Griffin Technology and the folks at Third Man Records. What makes them so special? Well, they're made out of genuine, working 7” vinyl records from bands The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. How cool is that? Read More...

Back when the iPad 2 came out we told you about Stuart Hughes, a luxury electronics customizer that has a certain way with mobile products. He coated Apple's 2nd generation tablet with diamonds, gold and even some of the oldest stone in the world, Ammolite. Now he's at it again with the recently introduced iPhone 4S.

Dubbed the iPhone 4S Elite Gold, Hughes claims his newest creation is “the world's most expensive phone” and we don't doubt that claim one bit, especially considering the Apple logo alone is covered with 53 individual diamonds. Other ridiculous enhancements include a 24ct gold back plate, diamond encrusted home button and a side bezel filled with over 500 flawless diamonds totaling over 100ct. Read More...

Last March saw the reveal and release of the iPad 2 just as the web had predicted and now, according to DigiTimes, it looks like the iPad 3 may be hitting store shelves around the same time in 2012. If you've been holding out to upgrade from the original iPad you may be in luck, but these are just rumors so don't get too excited.

Digitimes claims that parts for the new device, which is thought to be getting a Retina display upgrade, have already begun shipping to contractors like Foxconn for assembly. According to the report Apple could already be slowing down production of the current model, iPad 2, to prepare for iPad 3's inevitable production run. Read More...

Last week Apple announced the winners of its annual iTunes Rewind, a list of the top games and apps coming out of the App Store this year. Titles are divided between iPhone/iPod and iPad platforms and split up between apps and games.

Tiny Tower worked it's way to the Top iPhone Game with runners-up Tiny Wings and Touchgrind BMX. Top iPad Game went to Dead Space with runners-up Contre Jour HD and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery. As far as apps go Apple chose Instagram as the Top iPhone App while Snapseed grabbed the Top iPad App position.

Apple also awarded games and apps based on sales (also split up by iPhone and iPad) and the full list of those winners can be found below. Read More...

Apple Digital AV Adapter - iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch
We'll start with the basics. Watching TV shows and movies from iTunes and Netflix on the iPad can be great. But if you're not on the go why confine the entertainent to such a small screen? Apple's Digital AV Adapter lets you connect an HDMI cable to your iPhone 4, iPad and 4th Gen. iPod Touch so you can watch movies and even play games like Angry Birds on an HDTV! You can pick one up for $39 from the Apple Store, though you'll also need an HDMI cable -- Amazon usually has them for a good price. Read More...

The RingO iPad 2 Wall Mount, Car Mount, and Table Stand

Apple's iPad occupies an interesting space in the tablet market. As the Cadillac of its peers, the iPad has been replacing the home computer for many users who don't require the power and performance of a laptop or desktop. Dutch company Vogel's is betting that by making tablets more convenient to use, the number of such users will grow. Their new RingO mounting system provides the gear you need to go hands-free just about everywhere you go, even in the car, and is the most comprehensive package of tablet mounting hardware that I've seen to date.

By installing a universal RingO shell on your iPad, it becomes compatible with a variety of different mounting devices, including the table stand, the car mount, the wall mount, and the flexible mount. They're available individually, or as a set for $119.99. While not cheap, this is a fair price given the iPad's target audience. This should not be a prohibitive expense for someone who already spent $499+ on an iPad and is looking to get more use out of it.

A common Tweet and message board posting (originating, I believe, with comedian Patton Oswalt) I saw last night when the news of Steve Jobs' passing was announced was: "RIP Steve Jobs. Closest thing we had to Tony Stark." And it's true -- just as the comic book character Stark radically shaped the look and technology of the Marvel Universe, the work of Apple co-founder Jobs has made a lasting impact on almost every impact on our lives. Items that would have been the domain of mere science fiction -- a slim, compact phone that lets you surf the Internet and a tablet with a touch-screen -- have now become commonplace facts of life, used not just by techies and "early adopters" but by the public as a whole.

But the legacy of Jobs does not end with his technological advances. The very look and style of Apple products and advertising -- clean, simple, and elegant  -- has influenced everything from interior design to fashion, creating a mix of Zen meets the Space Age. The leadership style of Jobs and his business philosophy has also been very iconic and influential -- focusing on the Message first and building everything around that central point. And that Message was all about demystifying new technology and making it accessible to the People -- personal computers were no longer the domain of the highly-trained tech whiz, but could be used easily by everyone. Anyone who works with a computer all day knows how frustrating they can be. Sometimes they just don’t listen and we have to give them a little shake to make sure they know who’s boss. Usually it doesn’t usually help the situation, but the "Shake To Undo" app for Mac OS X makes shaking your MacBook a great way to relieve some stress and undo those last few mistakes. Read More...

iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch controlled RC toys just keep showing up. Griffin just released their HeloTC iOS-controlled helicopter and now Dexim is hitting the scene with this AppSpeed Monster Truck.

Just like most of the other iOS-controlled vehicles we’ve seen the AppSpeed Monster Truck comes with an RF dongle gets plugged into your iDevice’s 30 pin connector. Commands will come from the free DFSpeed app downloadable from the iTunes AppStore which will control the vehicle from up to 50 feet away. Read More...

Thanks to apps from companies like comiXology and Graphic.ly, digital comic books are pretty easy to find on our Apple devices, but doesn’t Apple have their own digital bookstore? Why can’t we just by comics through there? We’ve been wondering for quite some time and now the wait is over. As of today IDW has become the first major publisher to offer digital graphic novels through Apple iBooks!

Based on the initial lineup of comic books available from IDW it seems like they may be limiting their iBooks presence to trade paperbacks and avoiding the single issues, which is completely fine with us -- iBooks doesn’t have much in the way of organization and a bunch of single issues could get sloppy.
