As we reported last Friday, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is teaming up with comic book legend Stan Lee to create a new type of superhero...The Governator! Archie Comics, which is working with Schwarzenegger and Lee to produce a comic book based on the character, Tweeted that a new Governator trailer is online -- and now we're getting a much better picture of what to expect!

In the trailer, we see Arnold stepping down as Governor -- but secretly feeling restless. How can he still make a difference in the world? Cue the high-tech world of The Governator -- one that includes a powerful ring, suits of super-armor, and a motorbike that looks like it came out of a video game. When evil transforming robots try to rob an armored car full of money, The Governator steps into action, using his arsensal of gadgets to fight the bad guys robots.

The end of the trailer promises more in 2012 -- but you can check it out for yourself here!

LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) characters have had a hard road in the comic book world. Forced to keep them in supporting roles, writers had to dance around content restrictions for decades. Finally, 1987 brought mainstream comics its first openly gay superhero in Extrano from DC Comics. More recently, books like Birds of Prey and Secret Six from Gail Simone of DC have pushed sexuality into the limelight. Some would argue that the pioneer of sexually ambiguous characters was Krazy Kat, star of an American comic strip that ran from 1913-1944. The cat’s gender was never defined, and was often referenced to as both male and female. As time went on, homosexual characters began to crop up, but they were always under the radar.

The Comics Code Authority, which was comparable to the MPAA, was invoked in 1954. It was a strict self-censorship law that was quickly applied to avoid government interference. While the code had no legal authority, most places would not carry a comic unless it had the CCA stamp. This forced creators to mold and fit their creations to the CCA’s approval. The code became less strict as the years past, but still made sure that comics did not have nudity, excessive violence, or language that would have been inappropriate for television. As the code became less relevant, there has been a substantial increase in Marvel and DC’s gay supporting characters and heroes. Although the code never specifically stated that LGBT topics were forbidden, they would have been included under the term ‘sex perversion.’

Archie Comics recently introduced their first gay character, Kevin Keller. Having a new personality appear in Riverdale is, in itself, a big event. What is interesting about the new arrival was that there was no pomp or circumstance given to the fact Kevin is gay. Read More...

It’s a battle for the ages as American Idol and The X Factor go head to head in Riverdale this July! The two famous reality shows hold open auditions to see who can snag the best musical act, and The Archies, Josie and the Pussycats, and even The Bingoes show up for the competition! Watch Simon Cowell of The X Factor versus Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler from Idol in the craziest reality battle Riverdale has ever seen!

MTV Geek spoke with Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater about this big event, how Archie is evolving with the current music scene, and Goldwater’s love for American Idol!

MTV Geek: Archie revolutionized the world’s view of Riverdale with the introduction of pop culture topics. What gave you the idea to pit American Idol and The X Factor against each other?

Jon Goldwater: I just love American Idol; I’ve been following it forever! For Simon to leave, quite honestly, I felt terrible about him leaving the show. I looked forward to his critique every time! The fact that American Idol regrouped and brought in J-Lo and Steven Tyler in addition to Randy – I thought that was so interesting and different.

You had a sense that J-Lo would be a strong personality, but with Steven, you had no idea how he would translate to the screen. Then there’s Simon, who is the ultimate big personality, and he’s going to want to trump anything that he’s ever done with Idol. I thought it would be a really interesting dynamic to see the two shows competing against each other. It’s going to be a fight to the death to see who will be number one!

Geek: Classic characters like Josie and the Pussycats and The Bingoes pop in for some healthy competition. How do you think the auditions will affect Archie and the gang?

JG: Well, it’s going to make Archie and the gang step up their game! You’ve got a lot of talent out there in Riverdale. You know, Josie and the Pussycats have been practicing really hard, and they’re going to come out with more of a heavy rock sound than we were used to in the past. The new Josie is kind of a Joan Jett meets Pat Benatar. As for The Bingoes, we’re looking at a little REO Speedwagon, and a little bit of Styx. The Archie’s are going to have to keep up!

Geek: The Archies have been around since the late ‘60s, and continue to evolve with the times. What 21st century band would you compare them to?

JG: The Black Eyed Peas do a great job of straddling the line between urban and pop. The Archies are like a more pop version of the Black Eyed Peas, with those same infectious hooks and grooves. You’ve got Veronica – who sounds a little bit like Fergie, taking the lead vocals from Archie. I think you’ve got a little bit of a Fleetwood Mac thing with Archie and Veronica as well. The new Archies are definitely going to sound very, very fresh. Read More...

Archie and the gang have caught the social media bug! Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg is visiting the town of Riverdale later this year and MTV Geek has the exclusive scoop. The best friends who have often been rivals for Archie's love now go head-to-head to see who can get the most In-Your-Facebook friends! Will the kind and friendly girl next door win with her genuine personality? Or will the elegant heiress pull an upset and win it all? Witness a new take on the classic Betty and Veronica conflict in ‘Face-Off’, written by Angelo Decesare with pencils by Jeff Shultz. Pick up your copy of Betty and Veronica #252 and grab some popcorn, this no holds barred fight starts this Wednesday, February 16th!

The gang is polishing their keyboards in anticipation of a visit from Zuckerberg and his 100 million friends! It seems that local genius Dilton Doiley could have had something to do with the invention of the famous online social network. Is Zuckerberg coming to Riverdale to validate this or to refute it? Will Dilton take credit for the online enterprise and inherit a billionaire's fortune and business? Get ready for an intelligent argument between two binary-code savvy brainiacs, as Archie spoofs The Social Network with a social media battle of their very own!

Make sure to check back with the Archie news blog for the latest information on Zuckerberg’s visit, and other fun updates about the Riverdale gang!
