Young Justice is about to start it's new season very soon on Cartoon Network, and we are very excited to see what's coming up. In our opinion, YJ is second only to ThunderCats when it comes to current American animated series, and takes top spot over previous beloved DC animated shows (Scream at us in the comments section JLU fans!). The character interactions, dynamic stories, and big-name guest appearances have made Young Justice into a show that is not to be missed. In honor of the upcoming season, we've put together some of our videos from this year's San Diego Comic Con to satiate your appetites of teens in tights. Wait, that sounded creepier than we meant it to...

This week's episode is ThunderCats, "Legacy," is right in the middle of major spoiler territory, given that it reveals a lot of the new mythology for the series while also providing the Lion-O and company as well as the series itself broader direction for the rest of the season. Without giving too much away, this episode gives us some backstory on Mumm-Ra, the Sword of Omens, as well as some of the other creatures that inhabit Third Earth in the show's "present."

I'll do my best to avoid spoiling the episode, but just keep in mind I'll be treading lightly around the details of some of the things you might see this week.

****Possibly maybe mild spoilers after the jump****

ThunderCats Week rolls on here at MTV Geek like the ThunderTank tearing through a Lizardman platoon! While the animated series is a huge hit, and the driving force behind the ThunderCats' resurgence in popularity, the mulitple toy lines by Bandai America Inc. have strengthened fan's interest along with that of newcomers to Lion-O and his band of rebel warriors. We first saw this line at Toy Fair, and then scored our first taste at San Diego Comic-Con. Now with the lines in stores, we're chomping at the bit for any news on upcoming releases and thankfully had the chance to chat with Brehan Maul, Sr. Director of Marketing (Boys Brands), at Bandai America Incorporated about the future of the ThunderCats in the toy aisle... along with some exclusive news!

Next Monday's episode sees Adventure Time go on a gender bending, parallel dimension trip with NPH along for the ride as a crooning bubblegum prince in an installment guaranteed to double the amount of cosplay options at upcoming cons.

Prince Bubblegum, to be exact. That's right, things are going a little upside down and backwards on the third season's ninth episode titled "Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake" featuring a plucky girl adventurer, Fionna (Californication and Hope and Faith actress Madeleine Martin), and her magical cat, Cake (The Misadventures of Flapjack's Roz Ryan). I can't wait to see the gender flipped versions of Lumpy Space Princess, Ice King, and Princess Rainicorn (I'm not hoping too hard, that'd be weird). Read More...

As with any good world builder or designer, you get the sense when speaking to Dan Norton--who provides designs for the ThunderCats as Art Director--that he's spent some time thinking critically about what makes the revamped world of Third Earth tick--from its environments to inhabitants and how one affects the other. Earlier this week, Dan spoke with MTV Geek about some of the thinking that went into the latest addition to the show, the updated version of Jackalman. On the heels of our exclusive clip and coverage showing some other surprise characters appearing in the ThunderCats universe, it was our pleasure to pick Mr. Norton's brain about how he and the rest of the team behind the show constructed a Third Earth more dangerous than the characters that live in it.

Episode 4: "Old Friends"

(EDITOR'S NOTE: A version of this review was originally posted at thundercatslair.org)

Blending the classic with the new is what the new ThunderCats series is built on. From the characters to the storylines to the visuals, the new series is built around trying to strike the perfect balance between the original series and the new one.

It's the quest for this perfect balance that clearly drives the creation of "Old Friends", an episode filled with classic references and yet which captures so perfectly what makes the new series work so effectively.

The main focus of this episode is the relationship between Panthro and Grune - a new concept for this retelling, the two characters are portrayed as perfect foils for each other, both beginning the same way and striking up a friendship, and yet each taking divergent paths. Grune is a perfect example of the darker edge that exists within this Thunderian society, and Panthro (despite his flaws) is a perfect example of the ThunderCats we’re used to, loyal warriors with a strong commitment to their society. The connections that this episode creates between Mumm-Ra and Grune, and also between Grune and Panthro, one suspects will form a continual thread throughout this new series.
