Bond 50 - The Complete Blu-ray Collection

Bond 50 - The Complete Blu-ray Collection

The massive Panasonic booth at CES played host to three iconic James Bond directors: John Glen, Michael Apted, and Martin Campbell. Between the three of them they have directed eight of the James Bond movies: For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill, GoldenEye, The World Is Not Enough, and Casino Royale. That's an impressive amount of Bond, especially for John Glen who directed the first five on that list.

They were assembled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of James Bond and to announce the massive Bond 50 Blu-ray set from Fox Home Entertainment that houses the entire range of 22 James Bond films, from Dr. No to Quantum of Solace. Selected scenes were screened from each of their different takes on Bond, and it was very impressive to see how sharp and amazing they all looked, including even John Glen's For Your Eyes Only which is over 30 years old and stood up nicely next to Casino Royale.

While details were scant on what extras will be included, this marks the first time that the entire collection has made it to Blu-ray, and with the 23rd James Bond film Skyfall appearing this year, it's a good time to go Blu with Bond.

BOND 50 showcases fifty years of Bond neatly packaged into one cool, sleek collectable box-set featuring all six iconic James Bond actors. Produced using the highest possible picture quality and audio presentation, the collection includes all 22 James Bond feature films from Dr. No to Quantum of Solace and more than 130 hours of bonus features including some new and exclusive content.

“With all 22 feature films available on Blu-ray in one collection for the first time this is a great way for fans to catch up on 007’s epic journey before Skyfall hits theaters next Fall,” said Michael Brown, Senior Vice President, MGM Home Entertainment. “Now viewers can enjoy the intense action of the innovative franchise in the most immersive home experience possible.”

The M-Edge Recon Jacket

The M-Edge Recon Jacket

At one of my first booth visits at CES, someone handed me an iPad 2 with a bright green bumper around it. "Here, drop this on the ground." I explained that there was indeed an iPad inside of it, and that it was turned on and working fine. "That's right. Just throw that thing onto the ground." So, I complied while crying just a little bit on the inside.

Much to my surprise, it bounced back up off of the ground nearly to the height at which I'd dropped it, caromed around a bit, and came to rest perfectly unharmed. If only I'd had one of these for my last iPhone, it would have saved me a cracked screen.

The Las Vegas Convention Center floor isn't the only place to discover new, interesting technologies during CES. This year at the ShowStoppers event we stumbled across Feedair, a new ticker-style device that delivers your Twitter or Facebook feed to a classic LED display. Read More...

Streaming media players like Boxee and Roku suffer from one major flaw - the local programming and live events we want to watch simply aren't available through them. Thankfully, Boxee has introduced a live TV dongle that simply plugs into the back of the box and offers up live broadcast TV.

Here at CES 2012 we were invited to check out Boxee Live TV and although it's the same broadcast TV anyone can get for free with the trusty ol' rabbit ears at home, Boxee's approach seems like it could make things a whole lot more entertaining. Read More...

Sony continued the first-day trend of press conferences that moved along at a breakneck pace, covering a wide range of categories without lingering too long on one thing and thus saving the audience from burnout. That's something that many companies, including Sony, have done in the past and instead the new trend seems to be "Hold on, because we're really moving."

Sony approached their press conference with a shotgun, giving everyone a brief overview of their new items. While there wasn't any one "Holy CRAP!" item on the list, it was more about incremental upgrades to items: Handycams that can project videos up to 100" wide on nearby walls, the Bloggie Live camera that can livestream HD video content to the web, a remote control for their televisions that features a touchscreen and a microphone for voice control, and so on.

Oh, and Will Smith provided one of the more awkward "Celebrities at CES" moments we've ever seen.

Considering its already a crowded market we never really expected VIZIO to jump into the PC game, but the company predominantly known for their HDTVs has done just that with line of ultra-thin notebooks and slick all-in-one desktop PCs.

So why should we care about a VIZIO PC when there are already so many Windows machines available from countless manufacturers? Well, VIZIO is apparently approaching the idea of personal computer in a different way than other OEMs. First of all VIZIO PCs will sport a clean system image (no useless bloatware) optimized by Microsoft and their PCs will act as an extension of the current V.I.A (VIZIO Internet Apps) ecosystem the company has already implemented in their HDTVs, Blu-ray players and tablet. Samsung wants to make things simpler, smarter, and more enjoyable for the consumer. At its CES opening-day press conference, the goal of the company is to "break down the walls that exist between devices." Much like Ronald Reagan called for the Berlin Wall to come down and bring David Hasselhoff to both East and West Germany.

How are they doing that? The biggest step was in the new line of televisions it unveiled during the event. Samsung first introduced the "Smart TV" in 2008, which featured televisions that had internet connectivity, and other new features. Now, Samsung claims that the new TVs feature "Smart Interaction, Smart Content, and Smart Evolution," and these look like they might actually deliver on all three promises.

A few weeks ago Microsoft announced that this would be their last year attending CES and we made sure to attend the keynote thinking they would end things with some crazy huge announcement. They didn't, but there were a few announcements that had us intrigued and you can find all the details past the break. Read More...
