Brian Michael Bendis Talks 'Spider-Men'

It's a universes-spanning, unprecedented event: Marvel has finally confirmed today that their Spider-Men miniseries, which launches on June, will feature Peter Parker meeting Miles Morales. The Parker version of Spider-Man will find himself in the Ultimate Universe, where he's dead, and Morales has taken on the mantle of the web-slinger.

Spider-Men scribe Brian Michael Bendis talked to us in this video interview about the titanic meeting of the Webheads:

"We're very very excited about this, because for years people were like, 'Ultimate Peter Parker should meet regular Peter Parker.' And we thought about it...but there's really no story there. Like, 'hey, you're vaguely younger than me and dating MJ too!'"

Okay, quick story time: when I was about nine, I had a chance to visit the Marvel offices, which was great and all. But at the end of the tour, an Editor let me take as many graphic novels as I wanted from a box in his office. One of the books I grabbed was a Spider-Man OGN called “Hooky,” which is being reprinted this week as AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: HOOKY #1. And it may be the nostalgia talking, but if you have a chance to snag it, do. The story plays out like a fable, with Spider-Man sucked into a world where a young girl has to fight an increasingly terrifying monster, with no real spider-powers available to him. It’s a great story, with gorgeous art by Berni Wrightson, and might be the best thing coming out this week. Read More...

The DC Universe is full of interesting, offbeat superheroes we'd certainly like to see more of -- but who may not necessarily warrant an entire ongoing or limited series. Enter National Comics, the new title from DC launching in July which will spotlight a different "obscure" character in each issue. Wired's Geek Dad blog reports that the first story scheduled for National Comics will be "Kid Eternity" by Jeff Lemire and Cully Hamner, with issues focusing on Madame X, Rose and Thorn, and Looker to follow. When Dynamite Entertainment's Prophecy event begins in June, it will bring together a legendary assortment of heroes & heroines -- including Vampirella, Red Sonja, Dracula, and even Herbert West the Reanimator. Prophecyscribe Ron Marz, of Top Cow's hit Artifacts, is no stranger to titanic crossovers, and we chatted with the writer about the upcoming miniseries and why mega-crossovers can work!

MTV Geek: How did you get involved with Prophecy?

Ron Marz: Dynamite set up a meeting with me at the Baltimore Comic Con last year and offered me the gig. The story was always based around the concept of the Mayan 2012 Prophecy, but it took a few months of discussion to nail down the available characters and story details. Read More...

The nominees for The Hugo Awards  -- essentially the Oscars or Grammys of the sci-fi world -- were announced this Saturday. Noms were given to Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and, well, Martin Scorsese's Hugo. The biggest surprise in the bunch? A nod to the Community episode "Remedial Chaos Theory" for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form. Read More...

Get ready, He-Man fans: DC Comics is getting ready to launch a brand new take on the Masters of the Universe this July, in a six issue comic book series written by James Robinson, with pencils by Phillip Tan and inks from Ruy Jose. And that's not the end of the surprises... As the series starts, the evil Skeletor has already won!

That's right: the skull faced arch-enemy of He-Man has figured out a way to rewrite the reality of Eternia, casting himself as the ruler of Castle Grayskull, and our heroes - including He-Man - as regular peasants with no memory of their previous life. And while simple woodsman Adam may dream of wielding a massive sword, and fighting in battles, he thinks they're just dreams. That is, until a mysterious sorceress approaches him, and sends him on an epic journey to save all of Eternia. Read More...

Dynamite Entertainment announced today that they are publishing the sequel to the Mark Millar/Jae Lee oneshot "Witchblade: Demon." Called (appropriately enough) "Witchblade: Demon Reborn," the comic book will be done by the team of Ande Parks and Jose Luis, and be released in July.

"The original Witchblade/Demon one shot by Mark Millar and Jae Lee is a classic by two industry giants," said Top Cow Productions Publisher Filip Sablik. "Ande Parks and Jose Luis have some big shoes to fill. Luckily, from what I've seen, fans shouldn't be disappointed!" Read More...

As far as trippy premises go, here's a doozy: left for dead in a coma, a woman has to figure out who did it, but as a disembodied almost-ghost. And while she's looking for clues, she's also hearing her family and friends' thoughts on her, which aren't always all that nice. Yipes.

That's the idea behind Jim McCann (Return of the Dapper Men) and Rodin Esquejo (Morning Glories - covers) new series from Image Comics, Mind The Gap. The book doesn't hit until May 2nd, but you can pre-order it from your comic book shop right now... And to tease you a little, we have a few of the faboo inside pages to give you a taste. A taste... OF DEATH! No, actually of the comic. Anyway, enjoy: Read More...

Image's "Danger Club" #1, by Landry Q. Walker and Eric Jones, is a relentless and unique take on the "teen superhero team" genre -- but readers expecting a child-friendly follow-up to their 2009 cult hit "Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade" should look elsewhere. In fact, I was barely aware the duo was working on the issue (I had quickly pulled this off my husband's new comics pile looking for an interesting read) until about 1/3 through, at which time I exclaimed "oh my God these are the people who did that Supergirl book!"

Far more Rick Veitch's "Brat Pack" than Supergirl or Teen Titans, "Danger Club" tells the story of a world where all the adult superheroes have departed Earth to fight an alien threat several months ago -- and haven't returned. Left behind are their teen sidekicks, who have to fend for themselves "Lord of The Flies"-style. One such young hero, Apollo, tries to charm/mesmerize the rest of the kids to follow him (and prove their worth in an arena "Hunger games"-style). However, the quartet of Kid Vigilante, Fearless, The Magician, and Robot 9 fear Apollo's unchecked power, and decide to take him down. Spoilers ahead.
