Last month I talked to Tania Del Rio about her manga-style reinvention of the Archie character Sabrina the Teenage Witch. By now, you've probably heard the news that ABC has ordered a full season of "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and masterminded by Joss Whedon. But what you might not be familiar with, if you're not a hardcore comic reader, is the background of this mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. We break it down for you, in MTV Geek's History of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The rumors that former "Angel" co-star J. August Richards would be playing Luke Cage in the new "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." There are people who like superheroes, and then there are people like Laura and Seth. See Seth’s first love after Lauren is Nightwing and for Lauren, she’ll always have more than enough room in her heart for Batgirl. So when the two decided to get married, those fandoms had to come through in every aspect. Even their proposal was super, uh, popping the question while skydiving? How much closer can you get to being a caped crusader?
From their engagement photos that showcased the crime fighting couple posing alongside their favorite action figures to their invitations adorned in the respected logos, nothing was left untouched by their Nightwing and Batgirl love.

In the summer of 2010, Tokyopop founder Stu Levy took a cast of six American otaku and a film crew in order to explore otaku culture in the continental U.S. and find "America's Greatest Otaku." Otaku is a Japanese word used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime and manga. Historically, it’s had a relatively negative connotation, but somewhat in tandem with the acceptance of “geek culture” here in the United States, being an otaku has become more acceptable. Christopher Wanamaker was the winner named as America’s Greatest Otaku, and is founder and president of the DC Anime Club.
