This September, we say goodbye to "Dexter" and "Breaking Bad" but today is not a day meant for goodbyes. It's September 24th, and that means we'll all be watching Marvel's new series "Agents of SHIELD" to see if it lives up to the hype. Dear readers, we don't know what it's like where you live, but here in New York it is impossible to go anywhere without having the SHIELD logo shoved in your face on public transit and billboards. It's all over the internet. We've only blogged about it eight billion times on our tumblrs this week. Now is the time... for the Daily Geek, SHIELD edition.

Felicia Day Emmys

Last night was the 65th Emmy Awards. While there was plenty of nerd royalty in attendance at the Emmys, the show lacked any real defining geek moments (Although the James Cromwell fun fact--that he was the only person to say the phrase 'star trek' on the show--was totally awesome). We've come up with five ways the show could have been geekier and therefore way better: Read More...

Each week, Matt Wilson, co-host of the War Rocket Ajax podcast and author of the Supervillain Field Manual, examines a major comic news item and reviews four of the week's comic book releases.

One of the questions that's been swirling around my circle of comics pals on Twitter is whether comics news sites are too focused on movie stuff.

Well, okay, this is a lie. Life doesn't just stop because the latest "Grand Theft Auto" came out... but it's come pretty darn close to that. Anyway, here's your Daily Geek, the Day After GTA V edition.

Trust but Verify

With the first season of the CW's "Arrow" out on DVD and Blu-ray this week, we thought we'd speak to one of the (few) people who knows the identity of the vigilante of Starling City: David Ramsey ("Dexter," "Con Air"), the actor who plays "Diggle." Sometimes confidant, and occasional team-up partner with the vigilante, Diggle offers a contrast to the man who will one day become Green Arrow--and he may be the one to help push him on the path to becoming a hero.

New York Comic-Con is just around the corner, and as we all ready ourselves for the oncoming insanity, details are beginning to emerge about just what we can expect to see at this year's show. Of particular note are DC Entertainment's plans: rather than setting up their traditional booth complex on the show floor, they're taking a different approach to exhibition…  So when we heard the news, we not only got hold of the press release, we spoke to their VP of Marketing, John Cunningham, to get some more in-depth details on what DC has up their sleeve for NYCC attendees: Read More...

You know, back when DC Comics printed Justice League #0, a full issue devoted to (part) of the new origin of Shazam, I said that, "This might be the best, most consistently enjoyable story [Geoff] Johns has told since his Superman story... With Gary Frank." I think I wasn't being hyperbolic enough*: Johns and Frank's revamped Shazam story is a classic. It's a huge, exciting, all-ages story that approaches the source material with just the right amount of reverence.

In case you missed the story, which ran as a sporadic back-up in Justice League, lucky you, it's being collected into one trade paperback at the end of the month. Before that, though, we've snagged you an exclusive look at some of Frank's development materials for Shazam. Check 'em out, and be sure to check out Shazam Vol. 1 when it hits shelves on September 25th: Read More...

And it's grim.
