Marvel has managed to score yet another hit with their recent film based on Captain America. After seeing the movie, we were excited to get these action figures on our doorstep courtesy of Diamond Select Toys. Welcome to our review of the Captain America and Red Skull First Avenger figures from DST's Marvel Select line.

In the 1990s, Gambit rose to fan-favorite status thanks to his stint on The X-Men Animated Series that aired on Fox during the Saturday morning hours. His stereotypical Cajun dialect along with his constant work to win the heart of Rogue put him right up there with Wolverine as the cool guy of the bunch. Since then, Remy LeBeau has worked his way in the comics from X-Man, to Horsemen of Apocalypse, and back again. The latest offering from DST’s Marvel Select line is Gambit in all his pink-clad, 90s glory has managed to win us over with his creepy red pupils. Welcome to our review of the Marvel Select Gambit!

The X-Men have been made headlines in the comic book industry recently thanks to news of cancellations, mutant war, and Colossus possibly becoming the Juggernaut. Back in the 90s, times were simpler. Jubilee wasn’t a vampire and Colossus was just a big, Russian badass. Thanks to our friends at Diamond Select Toys, now you can capture a part of that nostalgia with this figure of Colossus from their Marvel Select line. Mr. Rasputin joins the likes of Gambit and Cyclops in the larger scale, and like Gambit features that sweet, sweet torso articulation that all us former Marvel Legends collectors crave!

The best-selling Marvel Select line is proud to add to the hit Danger Room sub-line! This time the mightily muscled Russian mutant, Colossus, makes his Marvel Select debut in all his oversized glory! Sitting here, scouring the internet for random oddities, our minds tend to wander. We we’re just thinking how we sure could use a little more Frankenstein in our lives and sure enough our friends at Diamond Select Toys are releasing the Universal Monsters as highly detailed action figures! The classic horror icons will be shipping in both regular and Toys R’ Us-Exclusive editions, with the TRU versions appearing to be the same-- minus the larger display bases and extras. These look to be around the same scale as DST's awesome Marvel Select figures (with less articulation), so looks like it's about time for Dracula to face off against the Juggernaut, don't you think?

Oh, and don’t worry about missing out since these (blood)suckers are going to be available in plenty of time for Halloween!

Hawkeye, Marvel Comics’ carnie-turned-criminal-turned-hero, is making his way back into action figure form thanks to combined might of Diamond Select Toys and Disney! While we hold our Toy Biz Marvel Legends version close to our hearts, even we have to admit that he was a bit too articulated. Yes, there is such a thing as too much articulation. However, other than the slight scale difference, DST has looked to have perfected Hawkeye in his classic look and we can’t wait to see what’s on tap for the other Avengers in the Disney Store-Exclusive Marvel Select series-- beyond those small pics on the back of Clint's packaging.

This is what the folks at Diamond Select toys had to say:

With all of the Avengers movie madness going on, you would think we’ve forgotten their comic book roots. But fear not! We’re pleased to unveil classic Hawkeye, the first in Diamond Select’s line of Disney Store-exclusive Marvel Select figures! Hawkeye comes with the Wasp (perched on an arrow) and a detailed base featuring the battered remains of Ultron, and will be followed up by classic interpretations of Thor, Captain America and the Black Widow! Hawkeye and Thor hit in August, while Cap and BW will follow in September. More pics to come!

For now, here are some packaged shots of Marvel’s archer extraordinaire. You can clearly see Wasp and the remnants of Ultron as well.

With this summer’s movie releases, 2011 is shaping up to be the Summer of Superheroes! Of course, with our obsessive nature we crave tie-in merchandise, and thankfully Diamond Select Toys has got us covered. Hot on the heels of their badass Thor and Loki figures from the recent Marvel film, DST has announced two figures from the upcoming (July 22nd) Captain America: The First Avenger movie! Like other Marvel Select offerings, these guys clock in at around 7 inches and are the only way to get figures of Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving in this scale. Both look pretty friggin’ fantastic and we’ll be sure to eventually have full reviews of these arch-enemies. Until then, here’s a quick description from Diamond Select Toys, followed by photos of the patriotic hero and his Nazi counterpart:

As we here at MTV Geek impatiently wait for the 2011 American International Toy Fair, we’re still bringing you the latest and greatest toy reviews from all over the landscape of action figuredom. “Figuredom?” Yeah, just go with it. This week Diamond released another bruiser to their line of Marvel Select figures: The Unstoppable Juggernaut! He’s 2 ½ lbs. of plastic mayhem, but is he worthy enough to mingle with our other Marvel figures? Only one way to find out…

According to the back of Juggernaut’s humongous blister package, this is his history, in brief:
Finding a mystical ruby in a lost temple in Korea, U.S. Army soldier Cain Marko read aloud the inscription to the gem: “Whosoever touches this gem shall be granted the power of the Crimson bands of Cyttorak! Henceforth, you who read these words shall become… forevermore… a human Juggernaut!” Charles Xavier’s half-brother became and unstoppable force soon after joining Magneto in the fight against the X-Men and anyone else that dared stand in their way!

Ol’ Juggy has one helluva sculpt! While we’re refuting the claim that he ever joined Magneto (except in our semi-filthy fan-fics), we can’t argue the tremendous detail captured in this hulking mass of destruction! Gentle Giant Ltd., best known for their line of Star Wars busts and laser-scanned head sculpts, are credited as the sculptors of this particular toy. Whether this was achieved through computer-aided design or the good ol’ fashioned human hand is not clear, but we couldn’t care less! Juggernaut’s imposing mass is captured expertly, as is his menacing visage. Xavier’s red-headed brother from another mother has a separate faceplate attached beneath the helmet to give the appearance of having his bulbous melon hidden beneath. Speaking of the helmet, it is appropriately huge and is pockmarked with damage from all the random running through walls and whatnot that the Juggernaut is so well known for. Like the helmet, the bands around his arms are also sculpted to look like hammered steel. The rest of Cain’s outfit looks like a tough leather or hide, like that of an elephant or the inside of a boxer’s cauliflowered ear. Gross, yet durable. Juggy’s (you know he would just LOVE being called “Juggy”) boots look as if they are made of thick, wrinkled leather. The soles of his boots are even fully sculpted with deep tread, so he doesn’t slip and fall while on a rampage through the streets of NYC. Very practical. Read More...
