Interview: Brian Wood Brings 'Star Wars' And A Sensitive Conan To Dark Horse

Writer Brian Wood keeps busy. The "Demo" creator has "The Massive" and "Mara" scratching his creator-owned itch at Dark Horse and Image respectively, while he's dipping his toe into superhero comics with a stint on "Uncanny X-Men" (something it seems like he's still trying to wrap his mind around), plus he's got a "Conan the Barbarian" miniseries with his "Demo" collaborator Becky Cloonan and bringing the original trilogy "Star Wars" to life in a new series.

I got a couple of minutes with Wood during Emerald City Comic-Con to talk about why he's not bothered by the expanded universe, the love of Conan's life, and sex, athletics, and superheroes.

Interview: Bunn And Jones Bring Together Witches, Vikings, And Zombies In 'Helheim'

Today saw the latest title from "The Sixth Gun' co-creator Cullen Bunn, who's going from cowboys to vikings in "Helheim" at Oni Press. And to tell his story of hellhounds, witches, the living dead, and heav metal album cover-ready vikings, he's enlisted artist Joëlle Jones, whose clean line work has made "12 Reasons Why I Love Her" and "You Have Killed Me" a delight to read. The story opens with a band of vikings caught in between a battle of wills of two witches--and Jones has made a departure from dames and romance to murder in the frozen waste with glee, as you'll find in this interview from Emerald City Comic-Con.

ECCC 2013: Animation Studio Titmouse Unleashes The 'Disco Destroyer!'

If you're a modern animation fan, you're probably into something Titmouse Inc. is putting out. The animation, graphics, and design studio took the stage at Emerald City Comic-Con with studio head Chris Prynoski, "Invader Zim"/"Johnny The Homicidal Maniac" creator Jhonen Vasquez, "Motorcity" producer Ben Kalina, and Man of Action's Jim Mahfood and Joe Casey.

What does the "Metalocalypse" studio have in store for 2013? Well, expect more "China, IL," more "Superjail," more "Venture Brothers," and they're working on something with both Amazon and Netflix. The duo--who'll happily respond to their character names from the show--came ready to talk about Michonne and Merle during their raucous panel where they were joined by a very special guest...

Video Interview: Artist Camilla d'Errico 'Helmetgirls: Origins'

For artist Camilla d’Errico, her “Helmetgirls” series of illustrations represent a kind of signature style for her. You may have seen them: cutesy girls with bright, wide eyes, wearing elaborate headgear. These helmets vary wildly: from baroque mechanical constructs towering several feet above the heads of the characters to birdcages to elaborate nests and animals perched atop the heads of d’Errico’s girls. They’ve adorned prints, bags, shirts, postcards, cameos, laptop sleeves and pretty much any other printable surface you can think of.

The characters have become such a compulsion for the artist that she’s teamed up with writer Joshua Dysart (BPRD: 1946, Unknown Soldier) to give them backstory in their upcoming work, Helmetgirls: Origins.
