New York City was a bit under the weather yesterday digging itself out from Superstorm Nemo, making Tauntauns the preferred mode of travel. It also happens to be the start of the 2013 Toy Fair, and a mere mountain of snow was not going to stop the fine folks at Hasbro from unleashing the hounds early for their Fan Media Day and letting get a sneak peek at what’s in store in the coming months. From the heart of their lavish Times Square showroom, Hasbro unveiled the new additions to their extensive line of "Star Wars" toys, accessories, Angry Birds and an impressive assortment of action figure additions.

For decades, Star Wars action figures have held steady at 3 ¾ inches. But now, the just-announced Star Wars Black line will finally bring the Jedi and the Dark Side in scale with your six-inch toys.
WORLDS ARE COLLIDING.
Announced in USA Today, the new line will consist of eight figures, tentatively priced at $19.99 apiece, that will premiere later this year. The first wave of four figures is currently scheduled for early-to-mid August, and will include Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing pilot suit, R2-D2, Darth Maul and an “Imperial Sandtrooper” (we’re pretty sure they meant “Stormtrooper”). When one little girl noticed that there were only 5 female characters in the game "Guess Who?", and 19 males, she did what any 6-year-old would do -- fire off a letter to Hasbro.
Here's the letter in full, via Jezebel:
"Dear Hasbro,
My name is R______. I am six years old. I think it's not fair to only have 5 girls in Guess Who and 19 boys. It is not only boys who are important, girls are important too. If grown ups get into thinking that girls are not important they won't give little girls much care.
Also if girls want to be a girl in Guess Who they'll always lose against a boy, and it will be harder for them to win. I am cross about that and if you don't fix it soon, my mum could throw Guess Who out.
My mum typed this message but I told her what to say."

OK folks, take this one with a grain of plastic for the time being. Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve heard that Disney acquired Lucasfilm for roughly $4 billion last week and Marvel for around the same price a few years prior. Well, we have it on good authority that serious discussions are happening at the highest levels of both Disney and Hasbro to fold the largest toy and game company on the planet into the Mouse.
From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry. The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time. Last year, Marvel Comics gave away an X-Force version of Archangel form Hasbro's Marvel Universe 3 3/4" action figure line for free with the purchase of a digital comic subscription. I missed my opportunity to own the winged bringer-of-death... and sadness ruled the day. Needless to say, when it was revealed that a Wolverine figure from the Mark Millar-penned Old Man Logan storyline was going to the next subscription figure beginning at New York Comic Con 2012, I knew there was no way in hell were pretty good odds I'd miss my chance to snag it! As fate would have it, Hasbro hooked me up (and all the other guests, cause I'm not special) with one for attending their press party, so I ripped Logan free from his package at the Javits Center for an on-site review!

Hot on the heels of Hasbro's teaser, during their pre-New York Comic-Con 2012 party, the entire G.I. Joe Kre-O line was shown off in all its brick-based glory. Duke, Cobra Commander, the Trouble Bubble, Wild Bill, and tons of Arashikage ninjas were present and accounted for and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the sets looked. I'm not sure how many I'll be picking up, but I will instantly pick up the Checkpoint Alpha set cause I gotta have Firefly! Still not a lot of info on the sets, but the pictures sort of speak for themselves. There will also be blind-bagged Kreons, like the current Transformers line, so hopefully Zartan, Destro, Dr. Mindbender and the rest of my beloved Cobra forces will ake an appearance there.

The pre-New York Comic-Con 2012 Hasbro party was exactly the type of extravaganza Tony Stark would have been proud to attend-- and cause a scene at. Food, drinks, music, and fun were in abundance, and the festivities were all surrounded by upcoming toy reveals for 2013. With Marvel Studios' "Iron Man 3" hitting next summer, Hasbro had a few items on hand including the larger Arc Strike Iron Man (sporting the Mark VIII armor) and an entirely new line of Micro Muggs!

Mini-figures and G.I. Joes are two types of toys that I'm a complete sucker for. Now, Hasbro has decided (according to this teaser poster they sent my way) to take all my money away by combining their G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero characters with the miniscule cuteness of their Kreons. Thanks a lot, you money-hungry toy barons! Anyway, during New York Comic-Con 2012, Hasbro will not have the booth presence that everyone has grown accustomed to and will instead be hosting a special press event on October 10th. Lots of late 2012 and 2013 toys will be on display, and I'll be there snapping photos and plotting an elaborate scheme to snag all of their wares. Until then, read on for a look at the teaser poster for the upcoming G.I. Joe Kreo sets!

"Monopoly Millionaire " is not the "Monopoly" of your childhood, and it says so right on the box: "First to a million wins!" While that's the most major of rules changes, several more tweaks separate "Monopoly Millionaire" from its predecessor. In this case, change is a good thing. "Monopoly Millionaire" is a surprisingly entertaining take on a classic that, let's face it, has gotten a bit long in the tooth.
